Hehe yeah I love that film. Like others have said, it's not the funniest thing ever, but I'll never forget that scene with the pizza boxes!

I enjoyed the film, but I agree with the critics that it didn't hit all the highs it might have given the premise.

Of course, being a biologist sort of guy, I'm pretty convinced that the premise is flawed. Lying probably predates humans. Most (if not all) of the other primates are capable of it and probably many other mammals as well. Pretty sure there are birds which can pull it off, too.

I've gotten the impression from his output the last couple of years that Ricky Gervais knows how to set up a joke, but has a hard time finishing it. He made several appearances on the Louis C.K. not-o-biographical show on FX this summer ("Louie"), and every time, it was a really funny bit up front that totally fell flat. And he had a choice role, too: Gervais plays Louie's personal doctor, a 40-ish jokester who doesn't take anything seriously and is constantly giving Louie really bad, and false, news.

On the upside, The Invention Of Lying never once suffers from Ricky's "most annoying sound in the world" laughing aloud. So that's nice.

I watched Cemetery Junction the other night. Gervais didn't star in it, but I think he wrote it or something, and it was funny as fuck. Really touching as well.

The coward slave, we pass him by
We dare be puir for a' that.

I watched it the other night, I thought it was quite good, nothing special but a worth a watch. I'm a fan of Ricky Gervais anyway.
