We have made several trips to the US and rent camper-vans to do round trips.

We planned to do a trip: Houston-Alamo-Big Bend Nt Park.

But we’ve been put off a bit as the trip would take us close to the Mexican border.
Is the press over-exagerating?

Do you have any idea how safe such a trip would be?
:eddy:
I'll take this backwards.

1. The trip would be perfectly safe. You can't take a safer trip.

2. Don't worry about the Mexican border, unless you intend to drive 5-9 hours out of your way *and* cross into Mexico. The U.S. side of the Rio Grande - even in places like Laredo and Del Rio (where you aren't going) is 100% safe.

3. Big Bend is tremendously isolated from Mexico. You just can't fathom how far away you are from any Mexican concerns until you go there.

4. Please, please, please make the trip = Houston to AUSTIN to Big Bend. Trust me on this.
I've done this trip. Never felt in danger even when I camped out on the Rio Grande. The only dangerous thing I can recall was having a deer jump over the hood of my car when I was driving at night. Scared the living shit out of me. If the timing had been a split second different, it would have come through the windshield. I didn't blink for about an hour after that.
