Work was cancelled for me today, btw. :coffee:
Any word on what they're saying the rivers will do?

I have some recollections of the Raritan River in Jersey flooding heavily. We have the Delaware River along the Jersey-Pennsylvania border and then there is the Hudson and the East River around New York City. All that rain has to go somewhere.

What about the Potomac?

I haven't been following the estimates that closely. I'm just waiting for a flood to come racing towards my house. Like in the movie Deep Impact, but smaller.

I was watching "The Men Who Built America" (damn History Channel and their cisbinary prejudice!) -- and they had a part there about the Johnstown flood, which was the most number of Americans killed in the US at one time up until 9/11/01. Floods can be nasty.

A gay romance in the throes of a world ending storm would be more appropriate. Their houses collided...

God sends hurricanes to punish people, but only in places that would get them anyway. Why hasn't he sent one to punish the Mafia in Alberta?

Is there precedent for a hurricane taking a hard left, then a U turn to the right like that?
Hurricane Hazel in 54 jinked like that tho not as severe and killed a bunch of people north of Toronto. I think there is still a small village buried under mud and debris.
Hurricane Hazel was the deadliest and costliest hurricane of the 1954 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm killed as many as 1,000 people in Haiti before striking the United States near the border between North and South Carolina, as a Category 4 hurricane. After causing 95 fatalities in the US, Hazel struck Canada as an extratropical storm, raising the death toll by 81 people, mostly in Toronto. As a result of the high death toll and the damage Hazel caused, its name was retired from use for North Atlantic hurricanes.

This is Toronto - we don't GET hurricanes..... :o I still dimly recall standing outside with my dad as it went by to the east of us.Very eerie.

She has since retired
Retirement
As a result of the catastrophic damage and severe death tolls in the Caribbean, United States and Canada, the name Hazel was retired, and will never again be used for an Atlantic hurricane.
The jinking tho is purely the interaction of the pressure gradients and the jet stream.
The nasty part is a stalled high pressure zone ( blocking high ) to the North East which steers the storm inland - then you've got the cold front moving from the west which is where the serious nasty mix of tropical warm moist weather with wind turning to snow.....oh joy.
Toronto could get two feet depending on where the fronts collide.
