What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. A good understanding of javascript would be applicable to learning any other language. - It's not going to go away or change so that your old code becomes obsolete.
- Syntax similar to Java / C++ / and other timeless languages.
- Automatic templating is great for new users.
- The GUI stuff is separated out so it doesn't become a distraction.
- The "view source" option in every browser means that spontaneous reverse engineering is possible and surfing the web could at any moment become an educational experience.
Cons:
- No pointers
- Limited power compared to other compiled languages.
