I disagree, then again, I have no urge to get a pet that wasn't Penthouse stamped.Gawdzilla wrote:Same here. I see cats coming through here on a "one-time sighting" basis. Most of them look shell-shocked and terrified, being tossed out of their homes and abandoned to whatever fate awaits them. I simply can't imagine betraying a trust like that. I'd rather go on half rations than let a family pet go or go hungry.Rum wrote:The economic downturn here is resulting in more and more dogs simply being abandoned. 120,000 this year. Many are re-homed but more than one an hour is destroyed. If you can't keep a dog don't get one in the first place and if your circumstances change and you can't then abandoning it is the cowards way out. Have it put down yourself you spineless twats.

It is fucked up. The notion that dogs who were hit by cars were left to a lingering death is total BULLSHIT, there have always been dog lovers and in the 70s 80s the PDSA patched them up for free with very few questions asked. I have plenty of memories of strays getting treatment and a house while they healed and not one single memory of a dog being left untreated by every single member of the community. Starved dogs came from inside houses not the streets, dogs with rampant mange came from inside houses not the streets. But, I'll acknowledge happily fleas weren't treated unless a dog was obviously the worse for wear!Feck wrote:I used to steal dogs from several council death camps around Scotland Dundee was the best, the kennel staff used to call us when they had a nice dog on the days deathlist we would go pick it up from a shed out back and the management would be none the wiser . I've used countless borrowed IDs to get dogs out of The Aberdeen Auswitz .
The point of what I'm saying is that our culture changed, dogs got seen less as individuals and more as belongings. Rehoming was no longer a matter of chance friendships between people and hounds and became the business of experts, the RSPCA grew out of all proportion and destroyed countless, countless dogs.
BTW - I like the Dog's Trust, they don't put them down and in managing, even by the skin of their teeth, they shame the RSPCA.
"Whatever it is, it spits and it goes 'WAAARGHHHHHHHH' - that's probably enough to suggest you shouldn't argue with it." Mousy.

As dog fans we support the Dog's Trust financially.floppit wrote:It is fucked up. We even get a little card on our sponsored dog's ''birthday' which is totally daft, but rather nice.

The dog was domesticated as a working animal not a companion. People who are proven irresponsible owners by abandoning these potenitally dangerous work animals should be prevented from owning dogs for life. I also would like 'dog lovers' to be investigated for bestiality but that is just 'cos I'm a nosey parker not a moralist.

what's wrong with bestiality? Sex beast is as respectable a line of work as shepherding of seeing eye for an honest canine.
