How much income tax do you pay?

I'm curious. I pay about 32% I think.

What is it like in the US and UK? And elsewhere?

I'm in the bracket (currently) for 25%... in addition of course to paying out a goodly amount for my retirement/pension, Social Security, and health insurance...

28% to federal, then there is state, social security, insurance, etc. which all comes out around 40%, after my retirement fund I take home about 55% of what I make.

For the last three years before I was unceremoniously dumped in April I was in the 'higher' tax bracket so some of my salary was taxed at 40%. It was a pain in the arse - after all I got the salary because I got the job and hopefully was good at it!

However I am a socialist at heart and actually I wasn't bothered for a moment. Fair and just in my view.

Wow.. 55% left!

Maybe it's not so different from Norway then. I think we have lower taxes in the north as a stimulus to encourage growth of the region. But I'm not sure how much higher the taxes are in the south (if they are). Maybe Eriku or someone can shed light on that.
