I loathe and detest Islam and all it represents. The suppression of free thought, of women (and you are a woman iirc), of progress, of education, of choice in the name of a nonsensical, violent diatribe on apostates and infidels. How can anyone believe such mis-translated nonsense? 72 virgins indeed. It's grapes. Sour ones, probably.

When I left school, now several years ago, I was looking forward to being released from the (minimal, actually) compulsory religious ceremonies like morning assemblies and the half hour "religious educational" slot - an oxymoron if ever there was one - we had every few days. Retrospectively, I consider myself lucky to have been brought up by atheist parents and not been as exposed to pious ignorance as many people here have been. Now what do I find? I find my freedom of expression, my own lifestyle choice and my behaviour is still being governed by religion in one form or another. If it's not Islam and the offence that Muslims take and over-react to, it's Christianity (equally vile in my book) and all that brings with it. I am totally disappointed with many aspects of humanity. Had it not been for religion, we would have progressed much further as a society rather than wasting time kowtowing to mind-people. And don't forget all those people, your countrymen too, dying (ultimately - I know Blair had a say!) in the name of religion.

I truly cannot see why an intelligent person would convert to any religion, let alone one of the most insidious belief systems available to the gullible. Surely there must be a better reason for you to convert than reading and accepting the dry old utterances of this sour tome. Maybe you have met someone, a Muslim, and you are required to convert so you can be with him. At least that would make sense.

I dislike Islam. I can't help that I feel that way. Why? Because it tell people they can't eat ham or bacon, it leads to people dictating what women should wear, it leads to people circumcisiing women..

My sentiments reflect those above. I have been friends with and worked with Muslims I really liked. Only thing was... they weren't religious (well, except when their parents came to visit). They drank, some done XTC, they had sex outside marriage and they basically enjoyed themselves and lived like a Westerner. I can only imagine if they continue to life in Ireland their children will become even more removed from Islam.

The main problem with Islam is the Qu'ran.

And that's only the second surah. You can't go more than a few verses without hearing some command to kill or condemn people of another or no religion. The book is one of the craziest things I ever read but also one of the most boring and repetitive because the type of stuff above is basically all the book is. And these are only the passages that condone religious intolerance! I haven't even gone into the misogyny, homophobia, injustice and cruelty.
Islam demands respect of everyone while not showing any. Your religion is like Christianity 400 years ago (I'm not a fan of them either) and has no place in the 21st century without seriously twisting the words of the Qu'ran and picking the good bits while ignoring the bad. The only problem with that is that the bad out numbers the good more than 3 to 1. You would basically have to ignore 2 thirds of your book. Here's the good stuff in surah 2.

Don't confuse truth with falsehood or knowingly conceal the truth. 2:42

2. Pay the poor-due. 2:43, 110, 277

3. Be good to parents, relatives, orphans, and the needy. Speak kindly and pay the poor-due. 2:83

4. If you believe it, prove it. (A good rule, but does it apply to Muslims, too?) 2:111

5. The Jews say the Christians are wrong, and vice versa. Yet they both believe in the Scriptures. 2:113

6. Give of your wealth to family, relatives, and the needy. Set slaves free. 2:177

7. Do not fight wars of aggression. (Does this apply only during Ramadan?) 2:190

8. "Do good." 2:195

9. Spend your money for good: to help your parents, your family, orphans, wayfarers, and the needy. 2:215

10. Help orphans. 2:220

11. "There is no compulsion in religion." (But see the next verse which says that disbelievers will burn forever in Hell.) 2:256

Add to all that the female genital mutilation, honour killings, hatred of women, bigotry, punishment by death for apostasy and anti-Semiitism you've got your self there one mean, anti-human and oppressive religion.
