Population figures from here https://worldpopulationreview.com/states

Cases and death rates from here https://worldpopulationreview.com/states

Death / million calc = deaths/population * 1000000

Latest data I could find.
Both links lead to the same page, which does not cite death rates.

Have a look at this one. Worldometers updates the data as soon as new ones become available. Easy to sort too. The columns I posted above come from there. I pasted the page into a spreadsheet, snipped the irrelevant ones, copied them to the post and added some colour.

Shit. Here's the deaths.

https://usafacts.org/visualizations/cor ... pread-map/

Looks like a difference in the figures, worldometers shows 21,477,737 population for Florida while my link shows 21,944,577. Slight difference in deaths, too, mine shows 62,220 and yours 62,264.

I imagine other state figures are slightly different also.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Excess fatalities of what? Any definitions? Does the various states of Ozland use the same definitions?
Fatality means dead. What other definition is there? :fp:
And excess means greater number than the average number of deaths within the same month of the previous 3 or 5 years.

Example from May last year:

there is already evidence (via death statistic comparisons from year to year) that the true death rate from the virus is higher than shown by the reported figures, in that deaths of the elderly and poor in many countries do not involve checking for Covid-19...
The Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport via its National Institute for Public Health and the Environment reported much the same late last month.
The actual number of deaths from the novel coronavirus in the Netherlands is higher than the reported numbers that RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment publishes daily. RIVM and Statistics Netherlands (CBS) monitor the mortality rates in the Netherlands. Not all people who die in the Netherlands have been tested for COVID-19. The total number of deaths per week as reported to Statistics Netherlands - regardless of the cause of death - provides an overview of the situation in the Netherlands.

Since a few weeks, excess mortality is seen in the Netherlands. The rising higher mortality coincides with the start of the coronavirus epidemic in the Netherlands. A significant part of the excess mortality is expected to be related to COVID-19. Which part that is will become clear later on in the cause of death registration. In the third week of April, data from CBS and RIVM show that excess mortality is decreasing.

In the week from Thursday 9 April to Wednesday 15 April 2020 inclusive, total mortality in the Netherlands significantly increased (mortality reported within two weeks - around 97%). A total of 4,500 deaths were reported; this count is usually between 2,654 and 2,959 deaths. This is between 1,541 and 1,846 more deaths than the expected average this time of year. This count is about twice as high as the reported deaths from laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients in the same week (876). Mortality was slightly increased in the 55-64 age group and sharply increased in the 65-74 age group and 75 years and older.

The Florida State figures are population 21,975,117, deaths 62,220.

http://ww11.doh.state.fl.us/comm/_partn ... latest.pdf

I imagine your death rates are more accurate, but the population figure is pre 2020 (2020 census 21,538,187). The larger population figures are no doubt projections. Even a small difference in the numbers significantly changes the outcome.

Damn that was quick ..ain't evolution wunnerful

Omicron becomes dominant U.S. strain with 73% of COVID cases
The variant made up an estimated 92% of cases in New York and New Jersey, the CDC estimate showed, and 96% in Washington state.

Thanks. usafacts.org cites its population source as "US Census 2017 State Estimates". Looking it up here (downloadable spreadsheet file) it was 20,977,089. The difference would presumably be the result of projection. worldometers.info provides no information about where it gets its population data from.

Nevermind. I accept usafacts.org's population data as more current. No matter whether Florida has the 9th highest or 13th highest Covid death rate (Your sites actually rank it in 12th position. Yes, I loaded their tables into my spreadsheet program, added a column calculating deaths/million and sorted the shebang by it.), it's nothing to crow about. In general you're more likely to die of the rona if you live in a red state. 8 of the 11 states with worse figures than Florida are run by Republican governors.

Edit: Just noticed your latest post. ;)

Excess fatalities are deaths in excess of long term averages. What don't you understand about this simple point?

Another typical report that is so vague you just cant believe it:
Israel on Tuesday recorded its first death from the Omicron coronavirus variant, according to Israeli news media which on Tuesday reported that a man in his seventies with pre-existing conditions died in Beersheva on Monday after having received two vaccination doses, Reuters reports.
What killed him? His pre-existing conditions or Covid? A Covid death quite amazing. Would the man have died from his pre-existing conditions? The question never asked.
