I recently stumbled across a thought-provoking tool called the Global Rich List, which measures your income against the rest of the world.

Basically, anyone who makes more than $35K (US) per year is in the global 1% of income earners. I

f you are employed and living in a Western country you probably fall somewhere in the global 1%. Try it out and see for yourself. You’ll likely be amazed.

My point is that the slavery in the world is powered by some people who don't think of themselves as 'wealthy'. However, if slaves are used in a faraway land, to make our products cheaper, are we slavers?

Having the buying power I do makes me think of the effects. I can't stop it, but I can recognize that my (and my 30000000 other Canadian friends) end up encouraging poor working conditions in China.

I got my vaccine. I'm not that old, not in a 'hotspot', not desperate. In fact, I feel a bit greedy having it. It isn't my call, I let the health care professionals make their decisions, which included jabbing ME, but I'm one of the 'wealthy few', by any measure.

Isn't it supposed to be gross to decline to acknowledge ones wealth and power?

Maybe I'm taking crazy pills, but to me the 1% boogeyman is the vaccine tourist, the low risk rich asshole who gets to cut in line by paying someone off.

We're vaccinating healthcare workers, the elderly, other hish risk people, prisoners, the military and others definitely not fitting the profile of the 1% boogeyman. And we've been doing that since vaccines became available here in December.

It's NOT the '1% bogeyman' used previously to vilify the most successful.

It IS the 1% most privileged with regards to access to the vaccine.

I don't know how you get my feeling guilty for being first, as me being 'holier than thou'. I wish things were different, so that this dose went to someone more vulnerable. I would gladly have stayed at the back of the line.
