There is no way to address masses of people inside the capitol, for that it's too small

Interesting. Of course, I have noticed that the GOP had changed... I mean, when I was a kid, it was a respectable party, and then nixon got caught with his hand in the cookie jar... and then they gave two terms to that crazy cowboy who I hear out insaned the soviets and drove them into hypermassive weapons spendings that caused them to disintegrate into bankruptcy (whether that's quite true is another story) ... and then there were the two shrub terms that were given to a village idiot because his dad was somebody important, and the latest case of the GOP forgetting all it stood for and nominating Don the Krazy Klown, a civilian for pete's sake, with neither experience, or even knowledge, of politics and the workings of government, just to spite the dems, and it working...

But what you poted puts a different perspective on it. and not a cheerful one.

Sort of true, but inaccurate. The Soviet economy had been on its knees before the Russians tangled with Afghanistan. Initially, the war was quite affordable. Although the Soviets never succeeded in subjugating the country, it did not lose much in the way of material and personnel. Its super expensive and practically invulnerable helicopters kept buzzing around the landscape, dropping thousands of colourful, booby trapped toys into inhabited areas. Thousands of infants picked them up and got their hands and arms blown off. This was meant to divert the Mujahideen and their families focus on fighting to tending to their children. The Soviet soldiers were also known to land their choppers, kidnap what women they could find and took them back to their camps for rape sessions.

A Democrat congressman from Texas, Charlie Wilson, got wind of all this during his visit to Pakistan. He was a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, through which he managed to manoeuvre Reagan's government into passing ever increasing amounts of aid to the Afghans. Watson meant the aid to primarily go to the civilian population. Medical and educational aid and all that. But he understood the Russians need to be kicked out first. So military aid came first. The US finished up aiding the Mujahideen to the tune of around 2 billion dollars in 1989 money. Most effective of which was the supply of FIM-92 Stinger missiles and training how to use them. Those missiles were man-portable air-defence systems with infrared homing capability. Small, expensive and extremely deadly. All of a sudden those super expensive helicopters became super vulnerable. The came crashing down by the dozens. From memory, almost 300 all told. Naturally, they had to be replaced.

The Russian people had to tighten their belts some more, especially the Muscovites, who had previously been spared much of the austerity imposed elsewhere for strategic reasons. So, now the central committee had lost its protective human belt. All it took now, was to make one giant mistake - to formally loosen controls over the people. If you lose a people's (reluctant) loyalty due slowly but constantly deteriorating material living conditions, the worst thing you can do is to give them more freedom to act, but that is precisely what Gorbachev' introduction of glasnost did. Collapse of the Soviet Union became inevitable.

The aftermath of Wilson's work was that the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, the Mujahideen the US armed and trained morphed into the Taliban and from there into al Qaeda and Charlie achieved none of his original aims. Instead of turning Afghanistan into a US ally by building schools, hospitals, providing training for teachers, doctors, nurses and bureaucrats to administer the lot, it turned its back on the country and made it an unrelenting enemy to this day.

That's my potted, oversimplified and probably error-riddled version of the collapse of the Soviet Union and events associated with it.

Fundamentally true. On its own it just cannot explain why the Soviet Union did not collapse 15 years earlier. All teenagers on the other side of the iron curtain were absolutely desperate to get their pinkies on those garments by then. A car-boot full of them finalised a lot more deals with their parents than any amount of hard currency. He was one of only few West Germans allowed to travel annually to trade fairs between East Germany through Poland and on to Moscow.

CNN
"Trump WILL be sworn in for a second term on January 20th!!," said a commenter on thedonald.win, a pro-Trump online forum, on Thursday, the day after the siege. "We must not let the communists win. Even if we have to burn DC to the ground."

Yeah but it has the plans in that link of the inauguration. The Trump and Biden crowds will clash on the 20th, for maybe the last big riot.
(article headline: Law enforcement braces for more extremist violence in DC and around the US ahead of Inauguration Day)

Do you need me to copy and paste everything? Here:
At the Pentagon, officials are assessing whether there is a need to bolster the number of National Guard forces to as many as 13,000 guardsmen for President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, according to a defense official with knowledge of the planning. Prior to the US Capitol breach, the estimated need called for approximately 7,000 guard troops.
