Places like Voat are being oppressed and starved of revenue by them. You know, THEM. Advertisers are scared of them. Their insidious influence is everywhere, and if an advertiser dares to cross them, then their cancel culture cataphracts will rain down hell on the offending corporation.

It appears that they've struck down another bastion of freedom and the open exchange of ideas. They're everywhere, and they're vicious and implacable (but also incompetent and ridiculous).

'"Free speech" Reddit clone Voat says it will shut down on Christmas'

Voat, an "anti-censorship" alternative social network that's been described as the "alt-right Reddit," is scheduled to shut down on December 25th. Voat co-founder Justin Chastain announced the pending closure yesterday, saying the site had run out of money after an investor defaulted on their contract in March. "I personally decided to keep Voat up until after the US election of 2020. I've been paying the costs out of pocket but now I'm out of money," Chastain wrote.

Voat was founded in 2014 and hosted Reddit-like forums with minimal moderation. It grew rapidly after Reddit added an anti-harassment policy and banned five subreddits that it said violated the rules, including its infamous r/fatpeoplehate forum. The site set a model for other "censorship-free" alternatives to mainstream web platforms, a category that grew to include Gab, Parler, and the defunct crowdfunding site Hatreon.

While these sites often don't take an explicit political stance, they've attracted a largely far-right user base that's incensed by bigger networks' crackdowns. Voat also provided a home for the QAnon conspiracy movement after it was purged from most other platforms.

It's almost as if a 'free speech' website can't operate without advertising revenue, and so they need to be bankrolled by donors. I mean, if Voat users really valued 'free speech' they'd donate to or pay a subscription for the service, surely? At least InfoWars sells useful stuff to keep the traps open and Alex Jones in Rolexs.

Proud Boys erupt at ‘Proud Girls’ co-founder: ‘Want to support us? Get married, have babies’

A former mixed martial arts fighter has decided to found a far-right gang called the "Proud Girls" -- and the far-right Proud Boys gang is not happy about it.

The Daily Beast reports that Tara LaRosa's effort to found her own "Proud Girls" chapter was met with scorn and derision on the Proud Boys' official Telegram channel earlier this month.

"Don't ride our coattails," wrote one upset Proud Boy of LaRosa's initiative. "Want to support us? Get married, have babies, and take care of your family."

A meme posted in the Oklahoma Proud Boys channel, meanwhile, made similarly sexist comments about LaRosa's fledgling group.

"This is a men's club," the meme said. "If you're not in a relationship with a Proud Boy, at worst, you're a groupie."

Another meme being passed around on Proud Boys channels bluntly states, "If you are a Proud Boy and you are involved in supporting Proud Girls you are fake and gay."

But LaRosa, who literally once made a living beating people up, fired back by declaring she was "tougher than 99% of you alleged men," whom she described as "little crybaby Pecker Boys."

One of the churches in Washington DC that was vandalized by the Proud Boys is taking them to court.

'Historic DC Black Church Sues the Proud Boys'

Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown DC filed suit against the Proud Boys organization and Proud Boys Chairman Enrique Tarrio Monday, saying group members' destruction of Black Lives Matter signs in DC during a December rally for Trump fans were acts of terror. Proud Boys' conduct in DC, when members of the group roamed downtown looking for people to fight, amounts to "a new and dangerous chapter in the long and terrible history of white supremacist mob violence targeting Black houses of worship," the lawsuit says.

The church is a historic Black institution in DC that has counted Frederick Douglass among its congregants. A 2005 memorial service for Rosa Parks drew celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and Cicely Tyson; President Obama worshipped there in 2013 before his second inauguration.

The lawsuit, which you can read below, quotes Proud Boys posts on social media before and after the event in an attempt to show that the destruction "was no accident." Tarrio has acknowledged he was responsible for burning a sign at downtown's Asbury United Methodist Church. Police said four churches were attacked. A police bulletin sent on December 14 includes images of men in the Proud Boys' trademark black-and-yellow clothing (one of whom wears a sweatshirt with a Proud Boys logo) destroying a sign at Metropolitan AME.

DC police are investigating the assaults on churches as hate crimes.
