I like how the hair has to give way for the speech bubble. :D

There's a guy named Will Robinson who's running for a county position here. So far I've stopped myself from tagging all his signs "Danger!"
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state

Trump is unlikely to gain 3 battleground states. The fake Hunter computer October surprise flopped. Something big has to appear. Maybe another FBI report two days before election?

By Marc Ambinder
Americans are flagging with election fatigue. We don’t want to fight anymore; President Donald Trump has exhausted us, Covid-19 is killing us, and the lockdowns are sapping our resolve and testing the limits of our compassion. We’re looking for leadership that will engage our vagus nerve, not produce endless pulses of cortisol.

That may be why, despite not leaving his voters dripping with enthusiasm, Democrats are smashing early voting records, turning out for former vice president Joe Biden in states like Texas several weeks before the election. It may be why reluctant Trump voters — the ones who since 2016 have wished he’d shut up and work instead of tweet — have shifted sides.

If he becomes president, I think progressives will give Biden a few months to operate more or less freely, as he tries to untangle the knots Republicans have left for him. When the lockdowns lift, the vaccines arrive and the economy begins to recover more equitably, our political fatigue may dissipate. That’s when he’ll face his long-delayed reckoning with his party’s energetic progressivism.

OK now this is fucking funny. Biden is talking about LBGTQ rights and transexual stuff etc.
He then recalled a moment from his childhood, when he was getting out of his dad's car and saw two men hug and kiss each other. "I turn to my dad and my dad says, 'Joey, it's simple. They love each other.'"
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-town ... imination/

Jesus LOLING Christ on a fucking unicycle. BIden was a kid in like the late 40s and early 50s. Catholic family living in fucking Scranton PA. I guarangoddamntee you that did NOT happen. If two fucking men kissed each other in public back then, in fucking SCRANTON, they'd have been lucky to just get the living shit kicked out of them. Probably get goddamn lynched. Come the fuck ON motherfucker.

Fuck me it's just too rich for words.

Guess he'd forgotten than when he voted for the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, preventing the Federal Government from recognizing sam sex marriage. But Joe IS a forgetful sort of guy, ain't he?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It does seem rather unlikely, back then, unless his dad was a paragon of tolerance...

He'd never, ever have seen two men kissing. No....fucking......way. They would literally have been beaten at least half to death by passers by. FFS homosexuality was a felony offense in most states at that time. Interracial marriage was banned. Delaware (where Biden moved in the 50s) still carried out public whippings. There was full on segregation, restaurants, hotels, drinking fountains. Divorced women were shunned. Public homosexuality was simply not an option, period. Hell, 20 years later they still thought Liberace was fucking straight.

The worst part is people are so fucking stupid and ignorant they'll believe it, just like they believe the bullshit Donny spews.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

A very interesting article on the "meritocracy" in the US:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-18/ ... t/12774726

In other threads, where posters were looking at the connection between racism and capitalist politics, I made mention of those in power using racial divisions to divide and conquer. A paragraph from this article:
It is a populism exploited by demagogues who fan ethnic and racial divisions among poor people who should have more in common with each other than with the elite opportunists who seek to lead by fear.
American politics now too often resembles a grotesque sideshow: the media salivating over the Trump circus and Joe Biden running on an "anyone but Trump" strategy.

This is a contest of the meritocracy that will serve the interests of the meritocracy. A Biden victory may bring more civility to politics but if the last four decades are a guide the lives of the working poor will only get worse.

America deserves better. Michael Sandel says hard work and hope aren't enough. A college degree should not be the measure of a person's worth.

The meritocracy believes unless you are moving up, you are left behind. But what about the strength of community, the dignity of labour, the importance of faith and family? Leaving should not be the only option for a good life.

As Sandel says, "a good society cannot be premised only on escape".

Power must be shared and made more accountable. Michael Lind says: "A country run by an aristocracy or an oligarchy is a democracy in name only."

Lind's new class war offers us a bleak vision: "A future of gated communities and mobs led by demagogues at the gates."

Nobody knows gay men kissing like Donald. People always say.
