Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late
Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

Re: The Trump Pandemic
Americans are queuing soviet-style for hours at food banks. c.40m unemployed since April and social safety nets cut to the bone over the last 30 years. I'm surprised there hasn't been shooting already.

Things could get interesting in deepest Trumpistan.

'The next death wave from COVID-19 will be the poor, rural and white'
[P]oor whites in the South are likely to suffer from the diseases and lack of access to health care that make African Americans throughout the country so vulnerable to COVID-19.
And, over the past 40 years, Reaganism has encouraged the spread of deep white poverty from red state to red state. White obesity, diabetes and hypertension are, therefore, overrepresented in poor rural areas as far away as Nebraska and Mississippi.
In fact, the Brookings Institution just reported that of the counties where the virus has most recently exploded, 151 of them went for Trump in 2016 (by an average of 12 percent) and only 25 backed Clinton.
Today, Trump, Fox and his followers think COVID-19 just kills the elderly, blacks and Hispanics—and they seem comfortable with the needless deaths of people they think are different from themselves.
As it spreads into rural white America, however, they’re about to learn otherwise.

Re: The Trump Pandemic
Yeah, it may partly be assuaged by more people working from home and staggered start and finish times, but no one is sure yet how it will pan out. Both my sons and one of their partners are currently working from home (David goes to his job once a week to touch base) and they are all hoping to work at least one or two days a week when relative normality resumes. Nick uses his bike to get to work anyway. Annie, Nick's partner is a primary school teacher who has been working from home, but schools re-open (at least the class she teaches) on Tuesday, but that is quite close to where they live anyway...Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 9:30 pmThat wont happen here. There is no parking space. I think more will work from home and starting times will change which is something that has been advocated for years. Work habits will change, well here they will. I always started at 10.00 and finish at 18.30. Never travelled in a full train except when there were problems. Part time working will increase even further.

Re: The Trump Pandemic
Part time working here has always been stimulated. Half of the working population work part time. The majority have permanent contracts. It is one of the major indicators why Dutch kids are the most happiest of the first world countries as they have good contact with their parents. Many parents have stated that they will be looking at doing more part time work from home as it has been a positive experience. There will be an increase in staggered hours. I remember working on a study to see the effect on traffic jams. It would take only 8% of people to change their starting hours to solve the traffic jams in this country. There is a trend here of families moving back into the cities to save travel time. The house prices in my area have rocketed. I live on the edge of the city centre and five minutes from a commercial zone (not industrial).JimC wrote:Yeah, it may partly be assuaged by more people working from home and staggered start and finish times, but no one is sure yet how it will pan out. Weakest excuse yet. I don't want or need your respect.
I just want to show that you're incapable of putting together a rational argument.

It's not an excuse, I just don't respect you, so don't value your contributions. It's probably because of your hatred of those different than you, but it might be your shocking ignorance about fitness.
