If that comes to pass it'll be due to the fuckwits among the USA's population, encouraged by Trump. After all, he would not have become POTUS unless 46.1% of the voters who bothered to turn up at the polling booths had not cast their vote in his favour.

I remember the (very mild, very rare) bits of fat-shaming that were done to me in mean spirit. Fat shaming works a lot better than the alternatives practiced in most western countries, it seems.

It has no value statically. Expressing per million always favours the large countries. Countries whose populations are under a million it is not valid. San Marino has 1,209 deaths per million and has 34,000 population. 13th. place of what? Look at the figures per state gives a totally different picture as would looking at the EU has a whole.

Perhaps worse than all these failings is that we know that the World Health Organization could have done so much better. Just a few years ago, under the direction of a different Director-General, the World Health Organization showed the world how much it has to offer. In 2003, in response to the outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in China, Director-General Harlem Brundtland boldly declared the World Health Organization's first emergency travel advisory in 55 years, recommendingagainst travel to and from the disease epicenter in southern China. She also did not hesitate to criticize China for endangering global health by attempting to cover up the outbreak through its usual playbook of arresting whistleblowers and censoring media. Many lives could have been saved had you followed Dr. Brundtland's example.

It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world. The only way forward for the World Health Organization is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China. My Administration has already started discussions with you on how to reform the organization. But action is needed quickly. We do not have timeto waste. That is why it is my duty, as President of the United States, to inform you that, if the World Health Organization does not commit to major substantive improvements within the next 30 days, I will make my temporary freeze of United States funding to the World Health Organization permanent and reconsider our membership in the organization. I cannot allow American taxpayer dollars to continue to finance an organization that, in its present state, is so clearly not serving America's interests.

I don't, I typed it off an image of the letter. I'm sure the full letter will be transcribed. More to the point, it will probably be quote-mined by both sides.

Mainly, I wanted to show that he is OUT of the WHO, and clearly. I heard a funny earlier where the US threatened to reduce WHO funding to the level of China's contribution (the US had been putting much more in than was China) but this is an even larger threat.

They HAVE gotten a lot wrong, and it kind of looks like they knuckle under to EVERYONE, so I don't disagree with him pulling funding. I think it is impossible to hold their place though...to get along with all the countries requires diluting their main purpose, since leaders often want to massage the message, if you know what I mean.

Maybe there is room for a 'blockchain WHO' in the future...an unforgiving and incorruptable global organization sounds a bit too 'Terminator 2' to me though...
