That's great for you. We don't have any of that shit here. I don't think any of us are going to overthrow the government and set this up any time soon, so you got another suggestion? Other than opening back up and taking a chance on the second wave, I mean.NineBerry wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 9:10 pm
If they are self-employed or a business owner: Go to their house bank and receive a crisis handout from the government and if requested, a special credit that you don't need your own securities but that is secured by a public bank which was specifically created for these purposes (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau). You can also legally defer paying rents for your business properties during the crisis.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The money is there. There is a state parliament and state government. They could do that. Just think about what would happen in an actual war with enemy Canadian military strolling through your beaches.laklak wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 9:33 pmThat's great for you. What's "ample"? How long is this going to take? Who's paying the light bills in the meantime? They haven't stopped those, you know. Or any other fucking bill I've got, I still got to pay.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The US just doesn't have the institutions or the infrastructure to deal with it. International aid is a possibility but I can't see the big orange one going for that, or ordinary Americans unless things get really shitty.
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.

Curves for Australia, Germany and Florida. Doesn't really look like Florida is ready yet. I'd even say that Germany is not ready yet and waiting another two weeks would have been better. But Florida is really not there yet. Unless you have setup a really rich infrastructure to do the tracing and isolating strategies.

It's all at the point of a sword. The part you were denying.NineBerry wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 9:29 pmIs that the same sword that is used to force you to pay money to build roads, buy tanks and pay judges?
How about the snowy forests you go running in? Is that your private forest? Do you pay entrance fees to the private owner? Or is the forest owned by the state and maintenance of the forest is paid for by other people who are forced at the point of the sword to pay their hard-earned money so that you can go running for free?
Or is it even worse and the forest is actually owned by a private party but the socialist states forces them pay their own good money for maintenance and still allow you to roam there for free?
Socialism would be fine (I like me some of it !) but for humans being fuckers. Health care should be paid for, but what about health care corruption?
You want to force farmers to give up their product for others to eat...I think they tried that a few years ago in Zimbabwe.
Life's complicated, and you can't ignore the economy, even if a virus is REALLY scary.

Sooner or later we have to reopen and do it in a way that keeps the curve going down and people fed.laklak wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 9:16 pmI don't give a fuck what Trump thinks, he has absolutely nothing to do with the decisions we need to make on a state level. I also don't care who is in charge of the state, GOP or Dems, it doesn't matter. The science said we needed to flatten the curve. We've done that (I'm only speaking for Florida here). We needed to get on the far side of the infection bell curve. We've done that. We've implemented every suggestion, and from what we're seeing it is working.
I'll ask again, why should we NOT start a phased reopening?
What is it, given our numbers that should prevent that?
The medical professionals I work with working on reopening, and they say masks, protective equipment, and testing are key. Masks, PPE, and test kits all have to be manufactured and distributed and there's where Trump could make a real difference. He said he was a wartime President, well he needs to saddle up and act like one.
He's used the Defense Production Act some, but he needs to go all Harry Truman on it and really mobilize production and distribution of this.
That would help a lot.

That's it, I hate everyone.Large, Troubled Companies Got Bailout Money in Small-Business Loan Program
A company in Georgia paid $6.5 million to resolve a Justice Department investigation — and, two weeks later, received a $10 million federally backed loan to help it survive the coronavirus crisis.

Over half of those new cases are in three counties - Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach, which is the far southern tip of the state. They aren't opening as quickly. Why should we, with a few hundred total cases, be shut down like counties with thousands and thousands? Why should the Panhandle counties be treated like Miami, when some have literally got case numbers in double figures and single figure death counts?

OK, how is your notion NOT forcing farmers to give up the product? Give them what the government decides is fair? What the farmer decides?

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
No, I agree, if there is a big difference in cases in different regions, then those regions with a lower number of cases can open earlier if they have the appropriate tracing infrastructure in place and keep basic distancing and hygiene rules.laklak wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 9:50 pmNineBerry wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 9:39 pmCurves for Australia, Germany and Florida. We pay farmers not to grow. We can't pay them temporarily when others can't?
Is this even an issue right now? We're giving away food here.
