Police in Oz have allies:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-29/ ... s/12100798
A siege is underway in Far North Queensland after specialist police and a helicopter tracked a man allegedly armed with a gun at Yorkeys Knob, north of Cairns.

It began when police were called to a break-in at a telecommunications building off the Captain Cook Highway at 4:30am.

A man then allegedly fired shots at police and rammed multiple police vehicles with his car, which later caught fire and exploded.

It is not yet known if any officers were injured.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the man was now contained in a cordoned-off bushland area at Thomatis Creek, but he had not been sighted.

"It's highly likely there are crocodiles in the area," the spokesman said.

The Captain Cook Highway between Holloways Beach and Yorkeys Knob remains closed to all traffic.

"Police do know where he is," the spokesman said.

"We have multiple officers on scene."

I was in Yorkeys Knob while staying at Holloways Beach. Had a horrible lunch at the yacht club. Some lovely looking inlets there full of crocs and jelly fish. Tourists actually go and swim there. :awesome:

Only in Australia would a location be named "Yorkeys Knob" ;)

It really is not worth a mention. Apart from the yacht club there was not much else.

If only Seth was here to go apoplectic over this! :Jack:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-31/ ... s/12105046
The Victorian Government is restricting the sale of firearms and ammunition.
Police Minister Lisa Neville this morning announced a decision of National Cabinet to put a temporary ban on additional access to firearms and ammunition for recreation and sporting shooters.
Conspiracy theorists will no doubt see this as the iron jackboot of the Oz version of the deep state... :tea:

Those poor outlaw motorcycle gangs!

https://www.theage.com.au/national/how- ... 54g2q.html
We speak of outlaw motorcycle gangs, whose legal and illegal activities have taken a hit. Strip clubs, bars and tattoo parlours are closed, the tow truck industry has slowed and with nightclubs shutting their doors, bikies have nowhere to hang around looking tough.
With gyms shut, the market for bicep-building illegal steroids has (like the testicles of habitual users) shrivelled alarmingly.

Poor bikies will have to get real jobs - not that there are many of them going at the moment. :coffee:

'Newly discovered footage of last-known Tasmanian tiger released'
The 21-second clip, which shows the male thylacine, sometimes referred to as Benjamin, in its enclosure in Hobart's Beaumaris Zoo, is believed to be the last footage of the animal.

It was shot in 1935 and aired in travelogue Tasmania The Wonderland months before the animal's death in 1936, reportedly from catching a cold after its enclosure inadvertently locked it out at night.
