Bernie Sanders (I-VT) suggested that critiques of some of his most antagonistic online supporters are largely unfounded and unfair, proposing that some of the worst offenders might actually be Russian trolls on a mission to sow disunity in the field.

But the private Twitter account of a newly promoted campaign staffer indicates that despite his condemnation of online harassment, at least some of the Vermont senator’s most toxic support is coming from inside the house.

Using the account @perma_ben, Ben Mora, a regional field director for Sanders’ campaign based in Michigan, has attacked other Democrats in the field—as well as their family members, surrogates, journalists, and politically active celebrities—in deeply personal terms, mocking their physical appearance, gender, and sexuality, among other things.

It's not surprising that more than one tankie supports Sanders. It's not even all that surprising that his organisation is apparently OK with that. Nice fodder for Breitbart and Chris Matthews; I think that Sanders should disavow their bullshit.

I have listened to him, and like him (though I doubt he can win)

His 'dangerous' ideas can't go anyway - unless he gets a lot of support from both sides of the aisle, so I'm not worried if he does get in. Certainly no more than anyone else.

I would like to hear him say what he doesn't like about communism, and socialism. His affection for those is what his detractors focus on most, so I would be very interested to hear.

Sanders has always been opposed to all forms of authoritarianism, even as long ago as when he was a member of the Trotskyite communist party (officially named the Socialist Workers Party). Unsurprisingly, the main stream media don't advertise this fact. After all, they are owned by billionaires and therefore slant their reportage in favour of Democrat presidential candidates who have no policies that would affect their desire to add more billions to their net worth. That is a dangerous idea Sanders simply will not resile from, so the MSM regard him as an enemy. Their editorial policy reflects this by stressing his socialism and ignoring democratic in his democratic socialism stance.

Nevertheless, every now and again a report of Sanders's opposition to socialism without democracy, his blanket rejection of authoritarianism - including that found in communist countries - inadvertently slips through.

Sanders, who describes himself as a "democratic socialist," was pressed on CBS's "60 Minutes" program on Sunday about positive comments he made three decades ago about communist states, particularly his statement that Castro had vastly improved education and health care in Cuba.

The Russia and Cuba thing reminds me of a friend in Finland when I was 15. His dad was a communist. They had those in the 60s, whereas all the leftist ideology is now in the social democrats and the green party.

Anyway, his dad, my friend's, would sit in the living room, reading a paper. I would chat with him and he would point out the Russian radio he got on his trip to Leningrad. "Best radio he ever had." There were small groups going there by 69-70. My dad had also visited a food plant by 66. The communist was not stupid enough to get a Russian TV set. It would have required even more trips to get new tubes for it than a regular TV. I saw one, it looked cheap. We had a Finnish TV, in a very nice modern wood housing, a Luxor in black and white.
