I'm glad you checked him out. I have a better hope of understanding the brother (biologist) but not much there either.

Sir Roger Penrose got on well with thim. I hear he is 'smart'.

I've enjoyed hearing his conversations, and as to the massive campaign in academia, do you think there is a massive leftie bias in academia?

It's becoming far less so when dopey rich kids (often conservative) can buy their way into university. In any case, reality has a left wing bias. :)

Academia is not one big, blobby, homogenous entity. A few of its sections are massively biased to the left, others massively biased to the right, but most sections are just massively biased to studying and teaching stuff.

During the 1970s the Arts Faculty of the University of Sydney had a School of Philosophy, formally divided into two Departments. One was the Department of General Philosophy. The other was the Department of Traditional & Modern Philosophy. About a quarter of the former's staff was massively biased to the left and about the same proportion of the latter was massively biased to the right. In Faculty's Economics Department the whole mix was contained in the one single organisation.

All staff swore that they were there purely to study and to teach, although some privately admitted they were also there for the plentiful, readily available sex, especially after they retired.

Or is there perchance an obstacle in your way? A wife, maybe? Impotence? A lack of nubile students in near proximity? Come to think of the latter, what happened to your intention to provide private tuition? :naughty:

I saw you seek out - very quickly - a way to 'gotcha' the guy. I didn't hear you talk about any of his ideas.
I think that for someone who is purportedly commenting on scientific matters to suggest you can drink a quart of Glyphosate without ill-effect while accepting a retainer from the company that makes it doesn't count as a 'gotcha' but as an example of the ideas and interests they are representing.

I didn't hear him suggest drinking the poison-du-jour, but can guess where that claim originated. Not what he said though.

Your ideas are about him, and probably still haven't heard Dr's Weinstein and Weinstein talk about their DICS theory, or their criticisms of scientific orthodoxy.
I've been trying to explain that there is no 'scientific orthodoxy', just verified methodologies, robustly acquired datasets, and sound arguments. Scientists have always argued over the details, and out of that a general or aggregate view is formed and tested, refined, reviewed and/or rescinded. The data speaks for itself, and the only thing that speaks louder is better data. There's probably always been people who think their ideas aren't being given the weight or importance they think they should. Differences of opinion are inevitable, and necessary, and out of that the most compelling arguments that explain and predict observations will gain precedence over those that don't. In every area of science researchers continue to prod at the data, make more observations, design new methods of testing the systems being examined, and bring new or interesting ideas to the table. Over time ideas that don't account for the facts fall by the wayside and those that do head towards becoming established scientific facts. Well-established facts are integrated into Theories (capital T, not to be confused with 'theory' in the sense of an idea, proposal or hypothesis), and incontrovertible facts are integrated into Laws. Science progresses.

But no matter, I'll stick to listening to scientists, especially where they don't agree with politicians and the Hollywood glitterati.
This, my friend, is disingenuous, because it implies that the people who accept the facts about greenhouse gasses and the part humans play in their appearance in the atmosphere, and the consequences thereof, are simply repeating an uniformed opinion from public figures rather than reflecting the state of current science. To imply that in relation to what I have said directly to you on this matter is, basically, a lie about me. Now this doesn't bother me personally because your personal view of me is irrelevant and because it doesn't reflect anything that I've said or any of the ideas I've tried to convey to you, but it does reflect on you a bit, eh?

You might convince me, or not. Since I'm not much of a scientist, your glory will be small. If, however, you dealt with a scientist (Moore, Weinstein or Weinstein) you could take a LOT more glory falsifying their ideas. Especially if you did it TO them. I bet you could get on The Portal - he brings in specialists from various fields to shoot the breeze. Sir Roger Penrose was sweet, smart but nearly incomprehensible around geometry (if THAT is what it is called) and more dimensions.
Frankly, this is a bollocks argument. You have essentially charged me with demonstrating a negative to you satisfaction as a condition of you accepting an argument for something you are clearly biased against: while a Moore or a Weinstein remains unconvinced their views somehow demolish the data and the aggregate view of the overwhelming majority of researchers specialising in this area. I can understand you identifying with the 'little guy' who is pitted against the rest, but this isn't a moral justice issue. Seriously, it isn't.

In the interests of a bit more focused discussion would you like me to summerise some basic ideas about what global warming is so we have some common terms of reference? While you ponder that one, let me ask you a direct question which touches explicitly on the ideas of some of the people you think are being sidelined by the aggregate view of contemporary climate scientists: Do you think that global warming as it's commonly understood violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics - and if so how?

Nah, I can't disagree with that!

Getting back to the thread title, I checked. The Dems, mainstream media and ALL of the twitter blue-checked brigade have tried, but it seems it isn't over yet.

To an outsider, it looks like the Dems are working for Trump. Maybe the second impeachment will do it!
