Everywhere. Candidates for elections should receive a very minimal bit of public funding, just enough to make sure that a bare list of the policies they support are available for public perusal, and that's it. No emotional political advertising, powered by vast amounts of dodgy money.

A passenger plane carrying at least 160 people bound for the Ukrainian capital Kiev has crashed a few minutes after taking off from Tehran’s main international airport.

Iran’s Red Crescent has said there was no chance of finding survivors, and Pir Hossein Kulivand, an Iranian emergency official, later told state TV all those on board were killed in the crash.

Ukraine’s foreign ministry confirmed that assessment, citing information from the airline, and said more than 160 people had been aboard. Local reports said the number could be as high as 180.

“The plane crashed five minutes after taking off,” said civil aviation spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh. “The pilot had no contact with the tower and didn’t announce an emergency situation before the crash.”

Kulivand told state TV on Wednesday morning that 179 people had been killed in crash, all but 32 of them Iranian citizens.
This is not the first 737-800 that has crashed:
Several 737-800 aircraft have been involved in deadly accidents. In March 2016, a FlyDubai 737-800 from Dubai crashed while trying to land at Rostov-on-Don airport in Russia, killing 62 onboard. Another 737-800 flight from Dubai, operated by Air India Express, crashed in May 2010 while trying to land in Mangalore, India, killing more than 150 onboard.
But they keep on flying.

Not entirely sure if those numbers are meaningful, as these middle eastern and asian bananarepublics fly Boeings because they are cheap. There are a whole bunch these flying world wide. Some 5000, 737-800 and 900.

The Ukrainian airline, however, has good records since 1990s. Their air travel problem is Russia.

As far as Iran, they probably should have stopped air travel in their air space the day they were shooting missiles. For their own safety.

Boeing: internal emails reveal chaos and incompetence at 737 Max factory
Executives mocked their regulator and joked about safety in hundreds messages given to congressional investigators

Boeing is more than a year into the worst crisis in its 103-year history and it just got worse.

The fatal crashes of two of company’s 737 Max jets – which claimed 346 lives – have already shone a harsh light on Boeing’s corporate culture and its cosy relationship with its regulator. Then on Thursday hundreds of pages of internal messages were delivered to congressional investigators in which Boeing executives mocked their regulator, joked about safety and said the Max had been “designed by clowns”.

Shocking as the emails are, they will come as no surprise to those following the Boeing story. Last month Edward Pierson, a former senior manager at Boeing’s 737 factory in Renton, Washington, told Congress he had witnessed “chaos” at the factory where the Max was built and had warned management that “Boeing was prioritizing production speed over quality and safety”.

Nor is oversight likely to get much of a boost from the Trump administration. Donald Trump has used two executive orders to cut regulatory oversight and hand more of that supervision over to businesses. Trump’s 2019 budget proposed an 18% cut to the transportation department.

Airbus should just make an offer to buy the passenger plane part of Boeing. Scrap the 737 and start making Airbuses at those plants.

The 100-year-old US company is facing intense scrutiny after two of its 737 MAX 8 planes were involved in fatal crashes in the last 18 months.

Now a second aircraft model — the 787 Dreamliner — is also facing allegations of production problems which compromise its safety.

Former Boeing quality manager John Barnett worked on the company's flagship 787 Dreamliner in the United States but he does not consider any of the planes that left the company's North Charleston factory airworthy.

"I would not fly on a Dreamliner and I've asked my family and begged my family not to fly Dreamliners because I know, I know what's under the skin," he told 7.30.

New York(CNN Business) A new software issue has been discovered on the Boeing 737 Max, but the company said Thursday it does not think it will further delay its return to service.

The company said the issue involves an indicator light staying on longer than intended. The light is associated with the stabilizer trim system, which raises and lowers the plane's nose.

Boeing said the problem was discovered during flight testing of the 737 Max's updated software. It said the problem was with the inputs into the plane's flight control computers.
