Fucking turtles. What the hell are they? What kind of reptile floats around in the water with a giant fingernail on its back?

Turtles were invented to make soup. Serve the soup in the shell.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I never got that thing where you actually mock the turtle soup. I mean it seems a bit mean.

Nantucket always remains in my memories of computers. The first real PC language I learnt. Clipper.

Image

Relative Data Basing. They started it all in 1985. The first genuine compiler for dBaseIII language. It broke the 640k boundary. It was OOP under DOS!. It was great to work in. It had its own unique array construction. Very powerful. A person writing python today would feel very much at home. One amazing thing it had which has never been duplicated and that is field locking. A databaser will know what I am talking about. Thanks to Clipper I earned very nicely thank you.

Most interfaces before windows looked like this.

Image

You can still see these programmes in use especially in shops. Hertz still uses a Clipper based application.
It was multi-user using LAN's. So powerful. Summer 87 and Clipper 5.0 were the high points. In 2002 it was sold to Computer Associates which was its death knell. They brought out a version for Windows (Visual Objects) and was in direct competition with Microsoft's Visual Basic. Say no more.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...
