Re: The Thread of Democrats
I don't think so. We have now seen a president ignoring the courts and congress. The next one may not be so inept and lacking a political goal. We will have a dictator if we don't fix the checks and balances.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late
Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

Re: The Thread of Democrats
I think you’re right to worry about those things. However, when discussing our history of foreign affairs, any individual president takes on less importance –in my opinion—than what have been our long-term goals and how we have gone about achieving them.
I’ve had this conversation many times in my life. I view the US as incredibly successful, and while I appreciate luck’s contribution to all things, I believe we have largely been able to maintain our position by remaining faithful to a philosophy that is shared by both parties.
It’s that philosophy that I’d like to see Democrats seriously challenge.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
The president's thinking once he becomes president. The role is more important than the man. Also, the politician swings toward the middle in foreign affairs.
But none of that really affects Trump. He is only concerned about how HE looks, not we.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
He's not actually the boogeyman, you know, or the Antichrist. He's no worse or better than any number of other dickwads who've held office. He's not going to make himself President for Life. He's not going to declare martial law and put progressives in death camps, he's not going to abolish elections or Congress or SCOTUS or take the vote away from women or minorities, or any of the other utterly ridiculous things bruited about by hysterical idiots. If he wins in 2020 he wins in 2020, we'll all survive, and he'll be out in 2024. Some other smarmy fuckwad will be in and either the Left or the Right will be going on and on and on about the collapse of Human Civilization. We'll still be shooting other people and General Dynamics stock will continue to rise.
People need to get a fucking grip. It be what it be.
People need to get a fucking grip. It be what it be.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

You've been dancing to that tune since the election. Aren't you getting tired by now? The alternative to Trump has to be more than 'no Trump' otherwise things just tick along as they always have - that is, getting a bit worse every time untill it all goes thhlllopppssfffp.

On one side are the Trump administration and 18 states, led by Texas, that agree with O'Connor's decision and want the law dismantled. On the other side are the U.S. House of Representatives and 16 states, led by California, seeking to have that ruling reversed. A threshold question is whether the House, and possibly the liberal states, have the required legal authority to defend a law the federal government is not defending.

The swamp in the US is the long-term, insidious strangle hold on American politics by powerful vested interests. All of your political parties have had a damned good wallow...
