It's in relatively straightforward language...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

I came across this again. One of my favourites especially with Burton.

Dont blame you. I am one who never understands the big fuss about Joyce. I have the same feeling about the German author Heinrich Böll. To me much overrated. IMHO.
Never having read any Böll, I can't agree or disagree, but the movie based on his novel Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum was a cracker.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould

I must admit that was one of his better ones but the filming was very good and improved it no end.
"Billard um Halb Zehn" was heavy going. I read in Dutch: "Biljarten om Half Tien".
Dutch has plenty post war heavy authors which bore you to death although in the literary world they are still gods.

If I wanted stream of consciousness I'd just sit and think about shit. Give me elves and dragons and mighty-thewed barbarian warriors any day.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

plenty literature on those themes; or you could just play Role Playing Games. May I recomment the writings of Robert E Howard?

I've read pretty much all his heroic fantasy, Conan of course, Bran Mac Morn, Kull, Solomon Kane. All the Cthulhu mythos stuff. I read a couple of his Westerns and tried to read the boxing stories, but they don't stack up against the fantasy and horror.

Tolkien for me. Lord of the Rings? Yawn of the Rings more like.
I can only agree here. When I refer to Tolkien as the Dickens of fantasy fiction, that's not really meant as a compliment. I don't need every leaf in the forest described for me in excruciating detail any more than I need that for every cobblestone in Victorian London. I'll cheerfully admit his importance to the genre, but almighty Bob, I gave up halfway through 'Fellowship' and haven't gone back.
