I don't think I need to go too much into Judith Curry's post. I'll just point out the bait 'n' switch is this, as well as the equivocation;

She points out one section of a publication which almost certainly doesn't support her views which has a table which says that Earth's systems look fine for this century and therefore no crisis. This is a deliberate quotemine, for one, and an equivocation on the word "catastrophic".

This table tells us nothing about sea rise, water shortages, climate migrants, crop failures, extinction rates and the related decline in biodiversity, and an increase in extreme weather etc. which are happening within these systems. We don't a catastrophic global collapse for a catastrophe, or probably more accurately a bunch of interrelated catastrophes, on the human scale to occur. Equivocation.

Also there's the tacit suggestion of kicking the can further down the road for future people to deal with by doing nothing, business as usual for her Koch sponsors. The most egregious part of all of this.
For the reality, we will see New York London etc building sea walls. It's been done before. Meanwhile, the people in Bangla Desh will need to move 2050-2100.

The Ocean Is Running Out of Breath, Scientists Warn

Widespread and sometimes drastic marine oxygen declines are stressing sensitive species—a trend that will continue with climate change

Escaping predators, digestion and other animal activities—including those of humans—require oxygen. But that essential ingredient is no longer so easy for marine life to obtain, several new studies reveal.

In the past decade ocean oxygen levels have taken a dive—an alarming trend that is linked to climate change, says Andreas Oschlies, an oceanographer at the Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel in Germany, whose team tracks ocean oxygen levels worldwide. “We were surprised by the intensity of the changes we saw, how rapidly oxygen is going down in the ocean and how large the effects on marine ecosystems are,” he says.

It is no surprise to scientists that warming oceans are losing oxygen, but the scale of the dip calls for urgent attention, Oschlies says. Oxygen levels in some tropical regions have dropped by a startling 40 percent in the last 50 years, some recent studies reveal. Levels have dropped more subtly elsewhere, with an average loss of 2 percent globally.

There was a total mess in the oceans in the end of the Permian. Probably why it was so devastating. Yet some large animals on land survived:

Only rebellion will prevent an ecological apocalypse.

Had we put as much effort into preventing environmental catastrophe as we’ve spent on making excuses for inaction, we would have solved it by now. Everywhere I look, I see people engaged in furious attempts to fend off the moral challenge it presents.

The commonest current excuse is this: “I bet those protesters have phones/go on holiday/wear leather shoes.” In other words, we won’t listen to anyone who is not living naked in a barrel, subsisting only on murky water. Of course, if you are living naked in a barrel we will dismiss you too, because you’re a hippie weirdo. Every messenger, and every message they bear, is disqualified on the grounds of either impurity or purity.

As the environmental crisis accelerates, and as protest movements like YouthStrike4Climate and Extinction Rebellion make it harder not to see what we face, people discover more inventive means of shutting their eyes and shedding responsibility. Underlying these excuses is a deep-rooted belief that if we really are in trouble, someone somewhere will come to our rescue: “they” won’t let it happen. But there is no they, just us.

More worrying shit.
10 APR 2019 STORY WATER
Greenhouse gases are depriving our oceans of oxygen
Wikimedia
Marine biologists will tell you that fish species such as tuna and swordfish, known as the deep-water divers of the ocean for hunting at depths of 200 metres, are today repeatedly coming to surface view.

The reason for the behavioural quirk is that warming sea temperatures have zapped oxygen out of waters even far out to sea, making it difficult for the predators to breathe—let alone hunt—in deep water. As the planet’s atmosphere traps more heat, so the oceans get warmer.

“If you think ocean warming, think rising sea levels, deaths of coral reefs, and the ocean acidifying,” Peter Thomson, the UN Special Envoy for the Ocean, told UN Environment.

It's difficult to explain these things to the average person. As an arm chair biologist*, I tried to explain the abundance of krill to some doofus person somewhere, in connection with food for penguins and whales. They were not convinced. "There's no problem, I still get fish." Climate change was not even the topic we were discussing, it was some environmental issue.

Scientists shocked by Arctic permafrost thawing 70 years sooner than predicted

Permafrost at outposts in the Canadian Arctic is thawing 70 years earlier than predicted, an expedition has discovered, in the latest sign that the global climate crisis is accelerating even faster than scientists had feared.

A team from the University of Alaska Fairbanks said they were astounded by how quickly a succession of unusually hot summers had destabilised the upper layers of giant subterranean ice blocks that had been frozen solid for millennia.

“What we saw was amazing,” Vladimir Romanovsky, a professor of geophysics at the university, told Reuters. “It’s an indication that the climate is now warmer than at any time in the last 5,000 or more years.“

With governments meeting in Bonn this week to try to ratchet up ambitions in United Nations climate negotiations, the team’s findings, published on 10 June in Geophysical Research Letters, offered a further sign of a growing climate emergency.

The paper was based on data Romanovsky and his colleagues had been analysing since their last expedition to the area in 2016. The team used a modified propeller plane to visit exceptionally remote sites, including an abandoned cold war-era radar base more than 300km from the nearest human settlement...

And of course, the extra whammy is that melting permafrost releases increasing amounts of greenhouse gases; a classic example of positive feedback...
