Brendon O'Neill, if it's the Spike editor, is a real nong. Keeps showing up in Australia pushing a ridiculous libertarian agenda.

In his 2012 Huffington Post article titled 'If You Were Abused By Jimmy Savile, Maybe You Should Keep It to Yourself',[4] O'Neill argued against victims of sexual abuse by high-profile individuals coming forward publicly, arguing that "I think there is more virtue in keeping the abuse as a firm part of your past, rather than offering it up to a scandal-hungry media and abuse-obsessed society that are desperate for more episodes of perversion to pore over".[4]
That's all I need to know. What a dick-splash.

Pretty much everything he says is a right-wing cliche. You don't even have to read/watch him to know what his views are on everything.

Brexit and the EU "The Anti Tax Avoidance Directive"

Post by Alan B » Tue Feb 12, 2019 12:08 pm

I have often thought that the reasons put forward to leave the EU are a bit simplistic, such as 'Sovereignty', 'looking after our own borders', 'immigration', EU 'Nanny-State', etc. and could be just window-dressing to hide the 'real' purpose.
Broadly speaking, I feel, the Brexit sections of the populace can be split into two parts: the followers and the manipulators.
The manipulators appear to be those with political and corporative power who stand to lose financially if the UK were to stay in the EU.
The reason for this would be a new EU regulation: "The Anti Tax Avoidance Directive" which came into force 1st Jan 2019. It was proposed in January 2016 when Cameron was in power.
The 'followers' would just believe the stories they were told as long as the stories agreed with their Right-Wing isolationist mind-set of pre-conceived ideas.
Forget Border controls and immigration, (although, as an island, they are important), the real reasons for Brexit are to avoid paying tax due by the Tax Haven and tax evasion addicts - the Rees-Moggs and Amazons of this world.

Have you only just come across this. When the UK leaves the EU so does Guernsey, the Isle of Man and the British Virgin Islands.

Yes that is my take Alan. I am only very surprised that more have not picked up on it. It is estimated it is going to cost the Brexiteers millions including May herself. All money that should be for the state but stolen by Maggie and her cronies when North Sea Oil came on line. This was mentioned by Andrew Marr in his last episode of his Modern British history.

It is a terrible injustice to the UK. A load of right wing gits robbing the state. Why do you think there is no agreement? It does not suit the Brexiteers.

Well, you say it's pretty obvious, but although the exact nature of the relation of the the Crown to those territories is somewhat convoluted the basic point has flown entirely below the radar. This is why the ardent Brexitarians could not countenance a transition period - because they would fall under the EU tax regulations until that transition was over. This whole business has been painted as being to do with the Union alone, with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island - with a brief skwarf over Gibraltar - but in the meantime the Pope Rees-Mogg has moved his company HQ to Dublin and issued warnings to clients about the expected adverse effects of Brexit. The British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man are all UK dependencies that provide so-called 'off-shore' financial services that will be beyond the scope of the EU come B-Day.

One calculation a while back suggested Moggsy's company could lose anywhere up to a billion pounds. Worth fighting for especially when it is not yours?

I think it's probably more likely that the Moggly one has calculated that Brexit will give him a massive dividend, rather than the motivation being a tiny loss of a million pounds of somebody else's money. He's been gambling on the markets since he was eight-years-old.
