Well, I understand that if you vote to send a representative for your region to government that's called a 'representative democracy.' Is that not what they have in the US?
Only till 2020. The idiots voted an idiot for a president. Things will be normal soon. Smart pople telling dumb people what they want, then letting the smart people run it.

Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Long words about nothing. There is no democracy in the USA. No two votes in different states has the same weight.

Only the ignorant think the US is or should be a democracy.
Colour me ignorant then, but what is the political system of the United States if not democratic? :ask:
when , depending on what state you dwell in, the value of your vote can go from 1 to 3, no, it's definitely not democratic. Democracy entails equality between citizens, the US system enshrines major inequalites.

Well, there was that Princeton study a few years back that concluded that our government is far more responsive to special interest groups than voters, so yeah, "oligarchy" isn't too far from the mark, IMO.

Let's not exaggerate. It's democratic system certainly has flaws, particularly in the weighting of votes, but it's a little absurd to go from that to "no democracy"...

Only in presidential elections, otherwise every vote is equal.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

How about your Senate? Don't states get an equal number of senators each, regardless of their population?

One person, one vote would have New York City ruling over vast swathes of farmland. Doesn't that seem a bit off-balance to you democracy-lovers?

What does seem off balance is that anyone's vote be worth more than another...

I don't know how to balance it, but I do know that it means that people living in remote communities have no voice, or they do have a voice, but it is drowned out by Montreal.

Are you really OK with Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver exerting authority over vast swaths of land none of them understand?

Trump "won" by attracting 2,868,692 fewer votes than Clinton. You prefer the tyranny of the minority, I suppose. Yes, I know. 304 Electoral College votes to 227. Those are the rules. That's not democratic, though.

I am definitely OK with 1 voter, 1 vote rather than one voter 0.8, 1.2 or whatever votes. democracy counts people, not square kilometres of land.

It's not supposed to be democratic. It's supposed to be a republic instead.

Democracy would have the tyranny of the majority, Trump won because he won according to the rules. You can say that Hillary was statistically better at every campaign aspect - I'll even agree if it makes you feel better.

But Trump won the US election. Winning the popularity contest isn't what he was after.

If only he was an ineffective idiot, you could be complaining about Hillary right now.
