Why the fuck can’t they make the bastards fit the majority of loaf and slice sizes? Utter incompetence!
Damned EU. They legislate that toasters must be one size but bread another.
Once we BREXIT, we can resolve this infamous inconsistency and have bread that fits.
The bread will be made of sawdust, crushed beetles and barley, but it'll fit...

Apparently that’s a ‘cool looking extreme toaster’. Who knew?
I initially mistook it for a doormat.

What kind of a MONSTER equips a kitchen with a toaster that doesn't fit standard bread bagel and crumpet sizes?

Exactly!
ALL toasters should be provided with a 'Bagel' function. I do NOT want to toast my crumpets and bagels on both sides.
And, apparently, (my son tells me) there are two sizes of toaster here in the UK one of which will take the large slices. But you have to hunt for them.

Never eat bagels; too sweet. I bought a wide Phillips that has holders which are spring loaded and keeps the toast in the middle for equal browning. It takes most sizes of thickness and length.

too sweet? I can get bagels here, they aren't sweet not too salty, perfect for toasting and teating with philly cheese

Here they are too sweet but that is true of all American styled food. A croissant on the other hand is perfect. Just butter and jam and a bowel of coffee. The perfect simple breakfast.

A bowel of coffee, you shit it before you drink it?
but a croissant is not supposed to be sweet either, it's savoury/sweet neutral.
And I guess I get basic, unsweetened , Jewish style bagels, either because that's what sells in that market chain, or because I dwell right next to the Jewish quarter.

Bagels aren't sweet here either. Maybe Scott is thinking of figure Donuts?

Nope. Bagels are sweet here in comparison with other bread rolls although you dont see them much here. You may find them on a pub menu. Croissants, keizer rolls and pistolets are more popular but there are a great range of "broodjes".

I wonder if the sweet might not be in the bagels but in Dutchy's perception.
