Even the East German judges are scoring you highly.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: Tariffs, Tarrifs, Tarrifs!
A fair run of BS, though the actual recession kicked off with the housing market crashing. The banks got burned because they'd done a lot of crazy things like mortgage backed securities which cratered when a bunch of people defaulted on their mortgages.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:01 pmI thought it was record that the last crisis was a direct result of bad banks. Calling it a natural downturn seems shady and in the same vein as the lesser of two evils pitch. You know what comes next, after China's behavior catches up with those riding just in front, 'nobody could have seen this coming'.
Except it's not natural, the lesser evil is not crossing your fingers and hoping you get what you can before it catches up to you, and many people probably did see it.
So what besides tariffs should the world be doing to make China a better trading partner?<--patting myself on the back for a near perfect run of bullshit up to this point.
You kind of overplay your hand when you call downturns "natural" though. It does seem shady for you to use the term when I didn't.

Fuck the banks! No, seriously, fuck them.
Actually the woman I deal with at the bank is quite attractive, and I know me.

If the tariffs had any effect, such as forcing Chinese to a negotiations, that has not happened. The longer the wait, the longer they have time to adjust their business, find new partners etc.

Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice

All the others, the ones who amount to 30% trade, vs 19% trade with US.

Xi is a pretty smart operator. If he can't win the trade war he might win some side battles instead. I'm thinking South China Sea, and maybe some more aggressive currency manipulation. Although, China hasn't had a power stand up to it in the last 20 odd years, so maybe they have got used to getting their own way by playing tough. Seems to me they can't win a trade war with the US, though. Does Xi know how to back down?

utm_campaign=theverge&utm_content=entry&utm_medium=social&utm_source=redditAlibaba’s founder and chairman Jack Ma says the Chinese mega e-commerce company no longer has plans to create 1 million jobs in the US, citing the ongoing trade conflict as the reason Alibaba is retracting its promise to Donald Trump. A new round of tariffs between the US and China will make mutual trade more difficult.
Ma told Chinese state-run news outlet Xinhua today that his promise was based on the assumption that the US and China would have “rational trade relations,” which is no longer the case. “This promise was based on friendly US-China partnership and rational trade relations,” Ma said. “The current situation has already ruined that. There is no way to complete the promise now, but we won’t stop working hard to promote the healthy development of China-US trade.” Last week, Ma announced his plans to retire this year and hand over the company to its current CEO.

Sun Tzu's The Art of War still sells like hot cakes in China and will have been read by every senior official in the Communist party. Plus they can play the long game, which is one of the things democracies appear to be finding it difficult to do. He can back down alright - and he can wait.pErvinalia wrote: ↑Thu Sep 20, 2018 2:49 amXi is a pretty smart operator. If he can't win the trade war he might win some side battles instead. Slap a 30% tariff on them and they'll just reduce costs by 30%, or sell a few more Falun Gong kidneys to make up the difference. Nice folks, those Chinese.
