The Bear and the Dragon...

The Chinese military has joined hundreds of thousands Russian troops to take part in the nation's largest ever war games — a powerful show of burgeoning military ties between Moscow and Beijing amid their tensions with the US.

Moscow said the weeklong manoeuvrers, known as Vostok (East) 2018, would span vast expanses of Siberia and the Far East, the Arctic and the Pacific Ocean and involve almost a third of Russia's million-strong military.

They will feature more than 1,000 aircraft, about 36,000 tanks and other military vehicles and 80 warships.

Sounds good to me. Time for US hegemony to end. Let someone else be the Great Satan(s) for a while.

If Trump is smart, he'll extricate us from NATO, bring all the troops home, shut down all overseas bases, and wash our hands of this world police business once and for all. Alas, he's not smart, so we'll probably end up with WWIII instead.

We've got to keep being pricks till our energy problem is solved. Solve that problem scientists and we can all live much better lives.

Hey, it's bound to be easier than solving our bad guy problems. They ain't going nowhere.

At the rate that wealthy Chinese are buying up Oz properties and companies, they'll soon replace the Yanks as our de facto masters without needing to lift a military finger...

It used to be called neo-colonialism when the Americans did it. China seems to be in the process of buying up all the good stuff here too.

well, I hear whole villages just moved and set up shop here... there are whole neighbourhoods that have become devoted to a single industry and that are colonized by Chinese... but the really good stuff is stilll getting bought up by Russian maffiosi or Oil sheikhs.

It's all political shenanigans. The politicians have to organise these 'parades', otherwise the generals will start asking "What the fuck are we here for?"

well, we don't need no parades, even though we have a couple each year, our army is small and totally overworked, maintaining peace in our former colonies.

they should keep quiet, we gave them Navarre which is historically and legitimately ours... then again, they are shifty, they might want to have all the basque country to them... actually, maybe we should give it to them too... they are welcome to those troublesome basques and good riddance of them...
