Not finding a lot of info on it. The full circuit court allowed the abortion, he wrote the dissenting opinion.

https://www.businessinsider.com/brett-k ... een-2018-7

He has never publicly revealed his personal views on abortion, and this opinion did not address the legality of abortion. The shrieking, hair-pulling hysteria is completely overblown and has, as far as I can tell, absolutely no basis in reality. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (Democrat, New York, whoda thunk it?) says "truly, women will die" if he's confirmed. I find this difficult to believe, to be honest. I mean, I've kept my eyes open, you know, waiting for the forced impregnations, the wholesale stripping of civil rights from women, the Handmaiden Corps - all that stuff we were told were an inevitable result of electing The Donald, but damn if I've seen any of it. Maybe I'm not observant enough, because a whole shitload of people swear it's going to happen.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Do you honestly believe the Republicans won't overturn Roe if they get the chance? The fact that they haven't yet been able to do it doesn't mean they don't have the desire to do it.

Kavanaugh referred for birthbcontrol pills as 'abortion inducing'. This is not a smart man. Educated does not equal smart. His statement is exactly equal in ignorance to a Gatorade-guzzling NASCAR fan.

I looked for more info on this and found that apparently priest for life were concerned about contraception and abortion inducing drugs.

But, you're telling me this guy conflated contraception and abortion inducing drugs because he mentioned one specifically but not the other?

Don't we tend to focus on and recall the most serious/weighty aspects of our decisions? And when attempting to convince others of our correctness are we not more likely to again focus on the most weighty of our concerns?

But nevermind, hundreds of pages on Google have already confirmed this man doesn't know the difference between contraception and abortion inducing drugs...

50 senators that represent maybe 30% of voters are ready to cancel federal involvement in abortion.

If they go anywhere near it, then I support breaking up the Union.

It's not something we will put up with.

Once the judges vote on, it is stuck, until a judge retires and a new judge is named.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/07/us/a ... ansas.html

https://www.npr.org/templates/story/sto ... Id=5029934
1992: 'Planned Parenthood v. Casey'

In another 5-to-4 vote, the court upheld all but one provision of Pennsylvania's Abortion Control Act, which among other things required: abortion patients in their first trimester of pregnancy to receive an "informed consent" booklet and wait 24 hours before receiving an abortion; and for minor girls to receive written consent from at least one parent. Although the court had struck down similar provisions in recent rulings, specifically Thornburgh and Akron, it now reasoned that only restrictions that imposed an "undue burden" on the pregnant woman would be invalidated. Using the new criteria, the court decided the threshold was breached only a by a provision that required a married woman to notify her husband before undergoing an abortion.

On that account, the court's ruling conflicted with that of an appellate court judge who had previously ruled on the case. Then a judge on the Third District Court of Appeals, Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito wrote that because the Pensylvania law included a provision allowing a woman to forgoe notifying her husband if she believed she might suffer his abuse, it did not present an "undue burden."

By establishing what was effectively a lower standard for state involvement in abortion decisions, Casey significantly weakened Roe. That said, it also reaffirmed its basic tenet -- that abortion in some form is protected by the Constitution as a fundamental right of privacy.
What the Kavenaugh court will do, within a year or two, is to start increasing the states' roles in abortion.

I got this much from Redditt on the Arkansas case
LITTLE ROCK, Ark A federal judge on Thursday granted a two-week restraining order against an Arkansas law restricting use of the so-called abortion pill, one day before the statute was to go into effect.

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, which operates two clinics in Arkansas, had challenged the law and U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker heard arguments on Wednesday before granting on Thursday the group's request for a temporary stay preventing the law's enforcement.

The judge will hear further arguments, but in her ruling said Planned Parenthood had a substantial chance of prevailing in its contention that the statute is an unconstitutional infringement on a woman's right to obtain an abortion.

The law the judge ruled on Thursday, which was approved by the state legislature in March, would require organizations or individuals dispensing mifepristone to maintain a contract relationship with a physician who has hospital admitting privileges.

The state argued that the law was necessary to protect women's health.

Governor Asa Hutchinson, who signed the bill into law, said he hoped the judge would reverse her decision after hearing further arguments.
It's more of the same Texas approach that abortion clinics must be essentially fully staffed surgery units, like hospitals.

Abortion is different. They better not touch it. We will not respect a decision preventing abortion. States will defy them.

That’s the point: Republicans will rotate towards states allowing or denying abortion. That is the first step. Then move towards banning on federal level.

They'll lose the federal level then. They'll gain a kingdom of shit for themselves. --let'em wallow in it, and in 100 years they can be civilized by outside forces. :tea:

Of course we'd put up with it. We'd have no choice. Basically, women in red states would have to travel to blue states to get abortions.

We do have a choice. I can't believe you would even consider putting up with it. It's a line that must not be crossed. Or are we just that pathetic now?

Oh? What would you propose we do? Our only option would be to vote Democrats back into power so they can eventually put sane people back on the court.
