I marched in a parade for then governor Bush once. That's about all the governor of Texas is good for too. Seriously, they are one of the weakest governors in the US. They don't have the power to do shit really. But we still give them a parade to signify their passing into a life of ceremony.

I just saw the other thread has been discussing the act that prevents recognition of Crimea.
Crimeans really identify as Russians, so why not let them be?!
The Americans wont let them.

It may be that most Crimeans are happy being part of Russia, but Crimea is not the end of Putin's territorial ambitions in Europe...

Not sure about that, can be decided case by case. Let Crimea be Crimea, like they wish. And Poroshenko is a nasty guy too.

Trump the dictator:

This mafia style of government makes Tr ... autocrats
Punishing critics like John Brennan is part of the US president’s ongoing abuse of power – and normalisation of autocracy

More than 18 months into his presidency, Donald Trump’s modus operandi – and the danger it represents – is clear. His working method is that of the mafia boss and gangland chieftain, daily wielding his power to settle scores, teach lessons and crush dissent. Anyone who’s seen The Sopranos will know the routine: the casual intimidation, the obsession with loyalty, the brutal ostracism meted out to those who dare defy the man at the top.

More judicial activism getting in the way of progress to Make America Great Again™.

'U.S. court orders Trump administration to enforce chemical safety rule'
A federal appeals court on Friday ordered the Trump administration to immediately implement an Obama-era chemical safety rule introduced in response to a 2013 explosion at a fertilizer plant in Texas that killed 15 people.

...

A week before Trump took office, the EPA issued the chemical safety rule, which required industries to take steps to prevent disasters. Those included more analysis of safety technology, third-party audits, incident investigation analyses and stricter emergency preparedness.

Former EPA head Scott Pruitt, who resigned last month under ethics allegations, had argued the rule posed unnecessary burdens. He introduced a proposal to rescind the rule, saying it would save Americans $88 million a year and better address potential security risks.

Supporters of delaying the rule had argued that because the 2013 explosion at the West Fertilizer Company was caused by arson that stricter measures would not have done much to prevent that kind of disaster, and postponing it would not harm safety. But the court said emergency-response measures and information sharing measures in the rule were pertinent.

“Given that twelve of the fifteen fatalities in the West, Texas disaster were local volunteer firefighters and other first responders, this would be a fairly weak explanation for delaying provisions that EPA previously determined would help keep first responders safe and informed about emergency-response planning,” the court said.

An EPA spokesman said the agency was reviewing the ruling.

There is no need to make ammonium nitrate. Nitogen itself works. So does nonexplosive urea, if you want a solid.

It's beginning to seem like ICE agents are competing to see who can be the biggest shitheel. 'I was just following orders.'

'ICE Arrests Husband Who Was Taking Wife to Give Birth at Hospital'
Since President Trump eagerly unshackled Immigration and Customs Enforcement from Obama-era limitations, the agency has gone all-out in its pursuit of arresting undocumented immigrants — whether they’re a danger to the country or not. With a mandate of near-indiscriminate deportations, ICE and border-patrol agents have staked out courthouses, hospital rooms, and once-routine immigration interviews to round up those in the country illegally.

This week, the agency may have outdone itself, and not in a good way.

On Wednesday, agents arrested Joel Arrona-Lara, a 36-year-old undocumented immigrant from Mexico, as he was escorting his wife to the hospital for a planned cesarean section in San Bernardino, California. Hours later, María del Carmen Venegas gave birth to her sixth child without Arrona by her side. (The news of his arrest was only widely reported days later.)

Lara and Venegas were stopping to get gas on their way to the hospital when two SUVs approached them. Agents asked Venegas to produce identification, which she did. When they asked the same of Arrona-Lara, he said he did not have any, but could return to his house to provide it. The agents then searched Arrona-Lara’s car for weapons and arrested him, leaving a distraught Venegas alone at the gas station ...

“I asked them why they separate good people, why they weren’t arresting people who do bad things, and I asked them to let us go.” Venegas told a local NBC News affiliate. “They told me they were only doing their job.”

Venegas said her husband did not have a criminal record. She also said that she did not realize the agents who arrested him were from ICE until they gave her a phone number to call to track her husband’s case. Such confusion around ICE agents is commonplace.

Why would they approach random people at a gas station? Do they mean they were pulled over and stopped at a gas station? Anyway, the police don't give a shit what you're doing when they arrest you. They never have, where the fuck have you been?

Although this is about Putin and Merkel it is in direct relationship with Trump. Merkel has had enough of Trump. With boycotts and his childish demands of buying American goods and gas. She is telling Trump that Europe is still independent and will do what is best for Europe.
Trump does not realise that you dont demand Merkel to do anything. You negotiate and make a case why you want her to take the action you want.
I just wonder in that little mind of his how he thinks that he can rule the world but can chummy up to Putin? If you do that to people like Macron and Merkel you will get the totally reverse effect. While he is doing his best to create Cold War 2 it is not working.
Merkel does not want to buy expensive LPG from America when there is a far cheaper gas just a pipeline away. Putin just wants trade. Speaking to Merkel is completely different than speaking to the manchild who has the illusion that he has the only right to speak to him. He seems forget what Europe has experienced and Merkel personally. She has seen enough conflict and shadow boxing during her youth in the DDR. She is not a strong supporter of NATO and does not see the point of buying American weapons.
We are not at war and no where near it. Only the UK is following this madman. It is sending it aircraft carrier without aircraft to America so they can actually see if modern aircraft can land on it.
Trump knows very well it would be unwise to take on the EU economically. He must understand his chicken run is restricted to America. This is what Merkel is making very plain in her talks with Putin. She will back down for no one. Mutti is telling manchild off.

Not the Onion: Canada’s forestry industry is pushing back against comments by U.S. President Trump that lumber imports are partially to blame for intense forest fires in California.

Trump said a at cabinet meeting Thursday that the U.S. should harvest fallen trees from the forest floor, which he says are making fires worse, rather than import wood when “Canada is charging us a lot of money to bring their timber down into our country.”

The comments were troubling and a bit ridiculous, said Forest Products Association of Canada CEO Derek Nighbor.

Lumber prices are higher in the U.S. because of the tariffs Trump has imposed on Canadian imports, said Nighbor.

“It’s his tariff regime that’s really provided a 20 per cent hike to consumer prices in the U.S. on softwood lumber.”

Dragging fallen trees out isn't profitable--many of them have been there for years and are useless as lumber. If they've been recently blown down they're often heavily damaged; some salvage can take place, but again, usually not profitable. Otherwise they fell because they were dead and rotting already. Loggers generally ignore old fallen trees, except to clear them out of the way if necessary. President Bogus is blithering about a topic when he doesn't have the first clue, as is his wont.
