Some of Mr Trump’s assertions, unsurprisingly, were incorrect. He claimed that “Germany is getting 60 to 70 per cent of their energy from Russia and a new pipeline” - in reality around 20 per cent of German energy use is from oil and gas imports from Russia.

Does he really think people in Europe are listening to him.

And if that is actually the case does it mean the US is controlled by the Arab oil states?

Now that there's no Commie menace that would make a kind of sense. Give the Ruskies back a good chunk of the old USSR and they'll leave the rest of us alone.

Trump has the same problem as Brexiteers. He does not understand what the EU means. Because the NATO was formed before the EU he cant understand that Germany is not an independent country. It is part of the EU. NATO should be scrapped. All he wants is Europe to buy American LPG for three times the price of Russian gas. His one brain cell is still stuck in the cold war.

Well you've given the game away there haven't you as far as Brexit is concerned? Germany is not an 'independent country'. If that is the attitude of the average EU citizen it is no surprise that the average Brit wants nothing to do with it.

well, I may not a typical EU citizen, but while I would never be so crass as to say germany is not an independent country, it's a fact that, given the web of treaties it's party to, it can't take unilateral decisions concerning commerce or defense, it has to check with the existing treaties, and possibly take counsel with its partners... then again, it can take the trump way and trample happily over all of its obligations and duties and look surprised and chagrined when there are repercussions.

The world seems to be entering scarier times, with China and Russia joining the US in doing whatever the fuck they want in other people's territory. The UN is totally broken, so I'm not sure how we get back to a more collaborative global situation.
