Learning to drive at the moment. My instructor's car is a diesel, Audi A4. Lovely car to drive. The handbrake is a button though, which is odd. Though it makes uphill starts easy as it disengages automatically as you push off. Diesels are almost impossible to stall.
My girlfriend drives an Auris which is petrol. Harder to drive. Have to disengage the handbrake yourself. Stalled it a few times.
An electric car, however, is one pedal drive. It has a brake pedal if you need to slam on, but easing off the accelerator will slow it down rapidly, instead of coasting, as the kinetic energy of the car is converted to electric energy instead of being wasted as heat. Lifting your foot entirely will bring it to a complete stop, even on a hill.
It can be hard at first as it feels like someone left the brakes on, but supposed to be great for slow moving traffic where you stop and go a lot as you won't have to keep switching around pedals.
