Hmm. Unemployment at the lowest rate in decades. Unemployment among blacks the lowest since 1972, and among Hispanics the lowest ever recorded. GDP growth estimated at 4.8% next quarter, with manufacturing at 5.4%. Over 200,000 new jobs last month. North Korea back at the negotiating table. China lowering tariffs on U.S. goods. Yeah, that Trump idiot, what the fuck does he know? He'll end the world as we know it and put trans people in concentration camps and start a nuclear war! And he said PUSSY!!!!!!!!!! We'd have been SO much better off under Hillary, who would have continued Krugman/Obama style economic policies and we'd all be happily enjoying the "new normal" of maximum 2% growth and 10% unemployment, but hey, trans people could use whatever bathroom they wanted and our society would be so much more, like, fair.

You don't have to like him, but it's hard to argue with the numbers. Personally, I'm quite looking forward to an 80s style economic environment. Man, I made me some dosh in that decade. My taxes are down, my income is up, my (admittedly few wish I had one fuckton lot more) stocks have risen over 80% in the last two years. Not that he can take credit for any of it, of course, it's all just Obama's policies finally bearing fruit, right? Must have been quantitative easing that did it. Couldn't actually be <gasp> capitalist market forces, surely? I mean, we all know that capitalism is a dead economic philosophy and never did anything for us except put little kids to work in sweatshop match factories and bleed the proletariat of their essential bodily fluids.

If this keeps up I might switch from voting Libertarian for the first time in yonks.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Yes, that's partially true. The economic trends that developed under Obama have more or less continued under Trump. The US is also benefitting from a relatively healthy global economy.

Trump one year on: Can the President really take credit for US economic success and record highs reached by the stock markets?

The Myth of the ‘Trump Miracle’
The economy is doing great and the president wants credit. He hasn’t earned it.

Don't worry though—Trump will likely eventually tank the economy like Baby Bush did, and shortly thereafter there'll be a new Democratic administration for you to blame it on.

Wait till Trump’s tariffs ruin everything.

Remember it is all figures and who is producing them? Do you really trust them especially unemployment. How is that recorded? America has a large part of the population that does not or is not registered especially blacks and Hispanics. New jobs? Where?
Growth?
America does not record things well. I tried once to do an analysis for my work for the Ministry of Transport on car accidents in the states. It was almost impossible. No two sates had the same definition to start off with and the way police recorded it was crazy. I take all data from the states unless it absolute data with a truck load of salt.

To rely on the unemployment stat, particularly when it records a single hour a week as "employed", is to rely on an effectively meaningless stat.

The sharemarket is doing good, therefore Trump good? The sharemarket is a gambling book. It's largely meaningless to the long term health of an economy.

Donald Trump’s lawyers sent a private 20-page letter to the special counsel Robert Mueller to assert that he cannot be forced to testify in the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, according to a report.

They also argue that Trump could not have committed obstruction because he has absolute authority over all federal investigations.

All those stats are just relative measures. They're calculated the same way whether it's under Obama or Trump. It doesn't matter if the actual percentage is 3.2 or 5.7, what does is two years ago is was sitting at 10. So no mater how you slice it a very large number of people are working today who weren't earlier. The same is true for GDP estimates and any other figure they put out. If they were a useful metric under Obama (and his supporters certainly trumpeted every .01% change in them as evidence of his infalibility) then they're useful under Trump.

I find The Donald a rather revolting person. I always said I'd have loved to sit down with Obama and have a beer, though I disagreed with his economic policies. I don't want to have a beer with The Donald. I don't really want to be in the same room with him. But I also cannot ignore what he's accomplishing. If we can pull this country out of the mire of the Bush/Obama recession I'm all for it. I lost my financial ass, BIG time, in 2007, and I'm just now finding it again. Lost over 50% of my assets, lost my job, damn near lost my house. Got some of it back now and I fucking like that.

I find the hysteria of the U.S. (and worldwide) left utterly absurd. People actually say, with a straight face, that so many are 'suffering' under Trump. Suffering? Where? Point them out. Are you talking about the bums panhandling? They were here under Obama and Bush and Clinton and Reagan. None of the apocalyptic visions of the left have come to pass. The Handmaid's Tale is still fiction. Pence hasn't opened up atheist concentration camps. The Donald hasn't nuked Iran.

I will give them this - the uninsured rate is slightly higher then it was, latest figures are it's holding steady around 12%. That is an issue, absolutely, But - and this is a fucking HUGE but - the ACA wasn't the answer. It might have insured a few more people (including me, I got a subsidy) but it caused utter havoc here on the ground. You couldn't find a fucking doctor. I ended up going to a fucking clinic with migrant workers. Tens of thousands of health care workers simply left the industry, including my wife. And it's still in effect, though by removing the individual mandate they've pulled it's teeth. We were all supposed to wait for the ACA to fix everything. We waited for years and it didn't fix squat, it made it worse for the vast majority of Americans.

Stop acting like hysterical children, FFS, the world isn't ending and some things are actually looking up. Count your blessings, we could have Jimbo Carter in office and no petrol in the stations.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The world needs to have it's legs slapped and put on the naughty step to have a jolly good think about what it's done.
