It's a stupid question for the same reason "are blacks uncivilized?" is a stupid question. No one gains any understanding, insight, or wisdom in a discussion about whether or not a certain group of people can be categorized or labeled as civilized or uncivilized. But I reckon it's a great way for Blind Groper to feed his superiority complex.

Doesn't it make more sense to discuss the merits or flaws of specific policies, institutions, and laws? Otherwise, all you've got is tribalism: "is Group X better or worse than Group Y?" He may as well ask if Americans are dumber than non-Americans.
depending on the definition of "uncivilised", and realising that it is very much a relative term. It is a multi-faceted contention, and its merits can be argued in detail...

It may hurt the feelings of those who see the US as the paragon of world civilisation, but so be it.
I've never said anything of the sort. I may occasionally defend Merkins from people like Blind Groper who seem to think we are human trash. So sue me.
Posters putting such contentions in a reasoned manner should not be subjected to any form of personal attacks...
"Reasoned manner" my ass.

Ah, buncha effete pussy-ass Eurotrash wannabes. Fuck your civilization, we don't need it. We got goddamned bears and cougars right outside the house, y'all would last about a week before you learned what "food chain" actually meant. Three fucking bears outside the cabin two nights ago. Not bears fucking, mind you, they aren't into threesomes like you perverts. We're REAL men over here, y'all just jealous cuz when we go over there we fuck all your women.

Damn, took a long time to edit that post. That's because up here at 5200 feet elevation, 40 miles from the nearest reasonable sized town and surrounded by large carnivores I only have 4G wireless internet, not nearly as fast as my 100/50 line down in the flatlands. Lack of civilization, I suppose.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The bit about the bears is actually true, there was a momma and two largish cubs on the porch two nights ago. And last week a cougar (or a catamount, as they call them up here) walked past the driveway while my brother in law was unloading the groceries. Passed by not 10 feet from him, didn't pay him the slightest mind.

Here's the view I woke up to this morning from the back porch. What price civilization, eh?

One of the reasons I started this thread was simple curiosity, to see how people reacted. So far I feel edified. It is always so interesting to see how people's true natures come out when they are aroused.

Another reason was to give certain Americans a reason to think. To get out of their smug little red necked boxes, and look at themselves, and use their brains. So far, I seem to have failed in this.

About two thirds of Americans are smart enough not to need this nudge, of course. They are the open minded, rational ones who already have a good balanced view. The other one third are reacting as one would expect.

Or maybe two thirds of us just think you're so over-the-top silly and wrong that you're not worth a serious response.

Ultimately this thread says much more about you than it says about uncivilised 'Murkins.

Hey! Come look everybody, rev said something not stupid for a change!

If you can thoroughly explain this "standard" you speak of, even more points to you.

But, you should also realize, this "standard" you think of is highly subjective according to your own culture and socialization, which is not my culture or socialization. And there's a good chance I want no part of it.

Sod bears, I couldn't live without a bus every 10 minutes within 200 metres of my door (I've never lived anywhere where that wasnt true and nor would I)

That's because you're a soft, weak, pathetic, excuse for human being.

I've got a bus/train station within 12 minute's walk in one direction, and a beach front promenade within 5minutes walk in another direction. And a supermarket within 2 minutes walk. Now that's civilized.

No bears around though. :x

There's a Hooters five minutes away from my house. Civilization indeed. :awesome:

No bears nearby. But I have squirrels and bunny rabbits living around my yard.
