Nature makes me happy, as does green. For a turbulent soul to find peace in nature is a beautiful thing, and for me, nature is the ultimate aesthetic ideal.

And the best thing is... it's everywhere. Seeing a tiny weed struggling to grow out of a crack in the pavement can occasionally give me that sense of wonder and beauty, as if I was in the middle of a dense forest.

I'm imagining myself as the bird. I try to explore its reality and see the world through its eyes. It's like briefly becoming a completely different being. It makes me feel so good that I sometimes drink a beer or four afterwards.

How can this be anything other than totally beautiful?

I love green too, but I don't buy it too often because it's too expensive.Meekychuppet wrote:Nature makes me happy, as does green. For a turbulent soul to find peace in nature is a beautiful thing, and for me, nature is the ultimate aesthetic ideal.

a) Doing something practical and focused; making string, flintknapping, carving wood, etc.
b) I dunno. Probably something to do with evolved human brain chemistry giving us a kick out of doing something like that. But also (more specifically) because I find it relaxing and meditative.

I've downloaded several vids and ebooks on flintknapping lately. Also, tanning hides and making buckskin. Not that there's much opportunity for anything except the flintknapping over here...Pappa wrote:a) Doing something practical and focused; making string, flintknapping, carving wood, etc.

Re: a) What makes you happy? b) And why does it?
I actually read a few books on it before I tried... I understood the physics of it really well before I even picked up a nodule. It's difficult, and sometimes really frustrating when you make an uncorrectable mistake, but also very gratifying when you get it right.FBM wrote:I've downloaded several vids and ebooks on flintknapping lately. I've been planning to scout around for materials and also plunge into the mountains for a week or so (wildlife photography), so now I think I'll combine those two interests and try a little hands-on.Pappa wrote:I actually read a few books on it before I tried... I am also happy making music and writing. Writing is my thing, and I hope my books do well. A career in writing would be a privilege and an honour. The spoken word is incredible, the written word doubly so.

Re: a) What makes you happy? b) And why does it?
Happiness for me typically comes from one of two places.
The first is helping someone, having their eyes go wide as they realize how much easier it makes their life and the smile which comes to their face when something unexpected goes in their favour.
The second is listening to good music which just wipes my mind of all thoughts, just letting the music take over in a form of meditation.
