Sometimes you can see this happening at normal speeds with the naked eye, but not very often. Mostly I see it when there's a lot of lateral movement of the droplet and especially when the density of the droplet differs from the density of the solution into which it falls- as is typical of solutions of sufficiently different temperature or solute concentration. Still, everything is cooler when filmed at ultra-slow motion.
