What is so Fracking complicated?

Post by rainbow » Wed Nov 04, 2020 2:04 pm

I don't get why Joe Biden couldn't just state his position on fracking.

As president he can't ban fracking, all he could do is stop fracking on Federal land. Also he can end Federal subsidies, but this isn't the same as a ban.
Private Frackateers can carry on if state law allows it.

Well, big oil, like other such multibillion industries, is well known to trickle on both parties more or less equally.

Corporate America doesn't give a shit if the country (other than their own gated communities) begins to look like Mordor on a bad day, as long as the money keeps rolling in...

He can't. Just like he can't order a nationwide mask mandate, or lockdown, or sign an executive order banning guns, or any number of idiotic, bullshit promises he's made. But, like the man said, nobody ever went broke overestimating the stupidity of the American public. One look at the number of people who voted for Trump or Biden proves that contention.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Well, the republicans finally acknowledged the minorities, ie. the racists, misogynists and the morons. They all can relate to Trump as one of their own, That's the secret of his success.

...so I assume your candidate lost?

Still the overreach never seemed to worry Trump, as he seemed to assume his Executive Orders would become law like a decree.

Frack away. The free market will account for any environmental disasters.

On the other hand fracking is better for the environment than crude oil, and far better than coal.

Shouldn't this be considered as a way to a cleaner greener economy?

There are serious environmental issues involved with fracking. The chemicals injected can pollute underground water, and a lot of methane is often released.

Meh. Chemicals, schmemicals. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Surely there are laws in the US that makes any environmental impact assessed before one can just start drilling?
Coal mining also releases a lot of methane and this continues after the mine is closed. A fracking well can be plugged after it is closed.

Ideally we shouldn't need either, but I don't see renewables taking over in the next 10 years so fossils are going to be required for peak power demand.

Surely the better option is the better option?

I don't see renewables taking over until governments tackle the environmental impact of the energy economy. But it's hardly rocket surgery, just a matter of political will, planning and regulation.
