Although I say it myself our streets are very clean. The environment is a big thing in Dutch schools and like sex is taught at an early age then throughout school as is sex.
Also long term unemployed (we dont have many of those anymore) have to accept cleaning work to retain their benefit. They wear day glow suits and go around in teams to pick up any rubbish from the streets.

They are regulated and protected. It is not cheap labour. There are plenty of jobs for them but they dont wont to work. Here you can never have your basic living allowance benefit withdrawn. It is your right but there is a certain section of society that dont want to work under any circumstance. After so many years of unemployment they are expected to do so many hours a month community service. Some clean the streets and others work in hostels or hospitals.

Here as it happens people doing community service (i.e. a non custodial sentence for a crime) are sometimes tasked to do this sort of thing. I think we win.

It is their choice. They can work in hostels or hospitals etc. They dont have to walk the streets but plenty think it is the soft option. A non custodial sentence is totally different. You wont be sweeping the streets. You would be helping the people that been affected by your actions together with a psychologist.

Rubbish. Numbers of job seekers far outweigh job vacancies. There's turnover, which allows a shuffling of some of the deckchairs on the Titanic, but not all of them.

Not here. We dont have job seekers. We have proper unemployment figures which are not massaged. Our unemployment is 4.6%. Which in practise means there are no employment problems. Once again your Anglo-Saxon mind set is unable to handle how a socialist country treats its people. Unemployment is not treated as a crime. It is an unfortunate position that people find themselves. People are not being exploited but encouraged to try and re-enter the work place. For some is sweeping the street the maximum they can do at the moment. After being unemployed for so long the work place is difficult to get back into. For many others they dont want to work.
Can you loose your basic living allowance in Australia? Do you consider the long term unemployed as lazy?
