Re: "Impossible" EM Drive Has Met Peer Review In New NASA Pa
The point about these kinds of drives, IF they work, isn't that they are super-powerful, but that they are super efficient on fuel.
Since in theory nothing shoots out of the back of the craft, you don't have to accelerate a heavy mass of rocket fuel as well as the craft.
No, it wouldn't get anywhere near lifting something off the surface of the Earth. It would have to be "launched" from space. But if you give the craft a small acceleration constantly, 24 hours a day, you can eventually reach very high speeds, much faster that rocket fuel could achieve. They are already using ion drives in space, positioning satellites. They work in space but could never lift a rocket off from the Earth.
If it were to work, the problem comes at the other end, you need the same length of time and thrust to slow it down again. So basically, you would have to accelerate for half the journey, and reverse thrust for the other half.
The other problem is that it's unlikely that it works. A lot of people are treating it as woo, others are in wait-and-see mode, but not holding their breath.

My idea is to capture a chunk of cometary ice, strap a habitation pod to it, and then liberate the hydrogen from the ice for fuel.

Hydrogen atoms must embrace collectivism! Fuse, and feel the exhilaration of an orgasmic energy release as you morph into helium!
