The curate's verdict applies: "Good in parts."

In addition to Tesla's accomplishments, he also disputed the existence of electrons and opposed the theory of relativity to the end of his life (1943) and he was a proponent of compulsory eugenics. One of his childhood inventions was the creation of a machine powered by a natural energy source: He glued sixteen May Bugs to the blades of a small windmill-like structure, and they set the rotor spinning vigorously in their vain attempt to fly away.

There's probably a seam of crackpot in many a genius, I guess.

I never understood celebrating the birthdays of dead people. We should be commemorating their death day if we must do anything at all.

Well I think the birthday is a signifier for life and thus the things they did. We don't remember those who did nothing in life but went on to be awesome afterwards. Perhaps we should celebrate death days of cunts like Savile, Thatcher, Bin Laden and the like.

I've never understood celebrating the birthdays of living people either, except little children.
So what, that the Earth has gone around the sun, one more time since the last one?

Are we celebrating that we've managed to live another 365 days? I celebrate surviving each and every day. In the morning, with a cup of tea.

Anyway, so what if Tesla didn't fully accept relativity. Einstein never accepted quantum physics. And relativity is increasingly breaking down as a theory, when looking at very small events, and extreme conditions.

The maths of relativity works, but that doesn't mean that it's actually what's happening.

But they're dead. It's not like we can say, "He's 87 today." The most we can say is, "He would've been 87 today, if he were still alive." It makes no sense to me. At least when you commemorate their death you're going from the last time they graced us with their presence.

But it makes it sound like you're glad they died.

Not quite. You celebrate them dying at the funeral.

The anniversaries would be celebrating that they are still dead, a year later.
