Head Transplants Now "Technically Possible"
According to a neuroscientist in Turin, human head transplants are now "technically possible". Given that, who's body would you like to transplant your head onto?

Ok, so who decides whose head is going to replace yours or whose body your head may be fixed onto? It's not really the sort of thing one plans for is it?!!

That's a very lackadaisical attitude....Trinity wrote:Ok, so who decides whose head is going to replace yours or whose body your head may be fixed onto? It's not really the sort of thing one plans for is it?!!

Do they mean technically as in the theory is sound and it's now a practical problem or "technically" as in "well we have thread..."

I'll have Richard Dawkins's please.

As in its a practical proposition. The plumbing is reasonably straightforward, it's the electrics that are the tricky part.Audley Strange wrote:Do they mean technically as in the theory is sound and it's now a practical problem or "technically" as in "well we have thread..."

Oh great, well in that case any healthy 21 year old every couple of years or would do me, youth being wasted on the young etc. Hmm I wonder if I could build a "spares" orphanage...Clinton Huxley wrote:As in its a practical proposition. I guess it would be the same as organ donation, which is something I've been meaning to sign up for for a while actually.Trinity wrote:Ok, so who decides whose head is going to replace yours or whose body your head may be fixed onto? It's not really the sort of thing one plans for is it?!!

You could clone yourself and keep younger spares in the fridge. Eventually, it will be more more unusual than changing ones underpants.Audley Strange wrote:Oh great, well in that case any healthy 21 year old every couple of years or would do me, youth being wasted on the young etc. Hmm I wonder if I could build a "spares" orphanage...Clinton Huxley wrote:As in its a practical proposition. Re: Head Transplants Now "Technically Possible"
I saw a programme showing a successful face transplant and that was weird enough, especially for the guy's wife who had to get used to looking at someone else's face but with the voice and body of her husband. I am working on the assumption that in all reality, you would only want your head to go on someone else's body because if it's the other way around, then you won't know it's you anyway!! (Unless brain transplanted too). Too weird for me. What if the body and head worked against each other? What I mean is, someone else's body has some sort of "memory" and doesn't agree with what the new brain is messaging it? Oh god, I'll shut up now....

Re: Head Transplants Now "Technically Possible"
If they can't repair spinal cord damage from severing of the nerves, then they can't do head transplants.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
