It is remarkable how they gather and collect these bones,
and preserve them with so much care, that you would say
their game would be lost if they violated their superstitions.

As I was laughing at them, and telling them that Beavers do
not know what is done with their bones, they answered me,
“Thou dost not know how to take Beavers, and thou wishest
to talk about it.”

Before the Beaver was entirely dead, they
told me, its soul comes to make the round of the Cabin of
him who has killed it, and looks very carefully to see what is
done with its bones; if they are given to the dogs, the other
Beavers would be apprised of it and therefore they would
make themselves hard to capture. (Paul le Jeune, 1633)

A group of divers has connected two underwater caverns in eastern Mexico to reveal what is believed to be the world's largest flooded cave, a discovery that could shed light on the ancient Maya civilisation. The Yucatán peninsula is studded with monumental relics of the Maya people, whose cities drew on an extensive network of sinkholes known as cenotes. Some cenotes had religious significance to the Maya, whose descendants remain in the region.

looks like shit on the plate, and when you taste it, you regret that it's not
maybe if it got deep fried it might be a bit less horrible?

They do look horrible, but I quite like them taste wise. If you think of coarsely ground beef with a gerat deal of pepper added and cooked pretty dry you get a rough idea. Not as bad as one might think.

Not as good either.

You've probably seen the long version of the caves published in all its high definition on Youtube here, here and here then. It was posted over a year ago. Gobsmackingly beautiful.

It's a pity that aboveground developments are threatening its existence, and treasure hunters will rob it like 19th century grave robbers in Egypt. Already a teapot that had lain intact at the bottom of a cave for centuries has been smashed by some rogue speleologist two years after its discovery. How much might be that pristine, possibly 2000 year old Mayan skull be worth on the black market? Unfortunately a site stretching across a thousand square kilometres, and accessible via hundreds of entry points, is impossible to keep safe. The documentary invites any number of greedy adventurers to pay it a visit, perchance to strike it rich. Risky, yes, but there are plenty of idiots around.
