A school has asked a mate to send her autistic child to an "Energy Psychologist"

I had never heard of the term, but upon finding this as a possible definition:

"Building on conventional therapeutic modals, Energy Psychology utilises techniques from acupressure, yoga, qi gong, and energy medicine that teach people simple steps for initiating changes in their inner lives. It works by stimulating energy points on the surface of the skin which, when combined with specific psychological procedures, can shift the brain's electrochemistry to help overcome negative emotions, habits and behaviours."

I'm calling bullshit.

But there could be other definitions of course. Anyone know anything about this?

I've a kid with autism...high functioning. Seems ritalin helps rather than voodoo or talk therapy. You don't talk to your liver with hepatitis so why do people imagine talking to a brain will set it right?

It sounds like first class bollocks to me, - though it probably does provide some positive placebo type effects if administered in useful way. Not sure how useful a placebo would be for autism, but perhaps some extra calming, caring interactions would be of some use. It's still the wrong way to go about it in my opinion.

If it involves Chi Kung (aka Qi Gong), Yoga, and "Energy" medicine - it is utter bullshit.

Thinking about doing work. I am a master of this art. I can think about work more efficiently than any other idler in the history of ennui. Or at least, I could, if I could be arsed.

"How does that work, then?" You could always suggest your friend to asks his practitioner how it works, just to be sure it's the right way forward, of course, and get him to ask to see some studies published in medical journals to indicate its effectiveness.

I drafted up some questions to be asked.

She's going to wait until the end of the session and then see if they claim a change in brain chemistry - having not done MRI / CT or taken any fluids for testing pre and post.

I have also discovered that it is the local school that has organised it!!
