SETI@home. Worthwhile or waste of CPU time?

Post by FBM » Sat Jul 25, 2009 10:49 am

I joined up years ago, like 6 or so, and I haven't found a single ET-signal yet. Am I/Are we just pissing away my/our CPU time or should I/we stay strong?

In a related question, am I/we being annoying when I/we keep slashing my/our pronouns? :tea:

SETI and other BOINCs can be set to work after a period of idleness, IIRC.

Yes, you is/are a dick.

Thank you for bringing that up. I/we have my/our settings to only BOINC in my CPU's downtime, so it doesn't affect anything I'm doing online.

My/our status as a dick is irrelevant to the OP. :Erasb:

We are aware of that, but we have not been elected Queen yet. Given the presence of this dangly thing and its two friends that we keep scratching, we don't expect to ascend the throne anytime soon...

We've only sent our signals 60-70 (ish) light years. I wouldn't expect a result anytime soon.

They're not specifically looking for a reply to our signals, of course, they're looking for "leakage" from other civs.

BTW, "S" was sent out to the universe over 100 years ago. :whisper:

So far I've discovered 17 separate alien species, but I'm not telling anyone.
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.
