Anny Bessent was head of the Theosophical movement, a psuedo scientific organization/movement I was interested in way back. The link between science and the divine was a cornerstone of their thinking.

We still have bits of preudoscience left: scientology, homeopathy, gaia.

I would only have sympathy for the gaians.

The Gaians are useful in keeping the health of the planet in the public's eye. They're a subset of environmentalist, the cousin nobody wants to talk about.

Because they're either pointless or batshit (depending on how they define 'gaia')
