The collapse of the Larsen A and B ice shelves in 1995 and 2002 removed a buttress that slowed and stabilized glaciers flowing off the peninsula’s coastline. With that backstop removed, the glaciers have accelerated to as much as nine times their original speed—vastly increasing the rate at which they dump ice into the ocean and fuel sea level rise.

Continued climate warming is expected to increase frequency and strength of föhn winds on the peninsula, says Pettit.

My maths professor got distracted by this last night, and spent the last half of his lecture talking about how amazing it is. He desperately tried to make references to maths while doing it. But it was obvious that he just wanted to talk about the cool rockets. :hehe:

To these the greater part...add strong liquor, for they are in general, in my opinion, lazy people of vicious character. " --José María Sánchez ~1827

I know sending a car into space is kinda like fly-tipping, but it's still cool. The coolest part was the booster rockets landing simultaneously and upright right on the X. That's the power of Maths man - you can't argue with that!!
