Homeopathy rage

Post by ficklefiend » Tue May 31, 2011 2:32 pm

Honestly it's a red flag to a bull with me. I wish I could be more level and calm and cooly argue people out of their ideas about it, but even a mention of 30c of this or that send me into wild-eyed, frothing-at-the-mouth fury.

Sigh.

Look what I came across in one of my passed papers (I am sitting my pharmacy exam next Thursday *nail bite*)

It made me want to complain on the off chance they set something like this bullshit question again for us, but I'm not even really supposed to have this paper. (although no-one is, and yet everyone does, of course) I wonder if any of this attitude has changed in the last four years? I know there are a small number of extremely vocal pharmacist-homeopaths in northern ireland, so maybe it is one of their doing?

Wow.... so you have to knowingly lie to pass the questions. :fp:

I'd be pretty annoyed too.

Answer them truthfully and write a little note about the efficiacy of sugar pills underneath

Yes, my reaction coming across this was "What answer are they looking for?" "Are they trying to test my knowledge of homeopathy seriously, or catch me out scientifically correctly?"

Which is not what you want to be asking yourself in an exam!

They do say any misleading questions can be pulled out after the exam and the marks discounted, which I think I would have to write and ask for, purely out of principle if not for my marks! (although the silly thing is, hating it viscerally, I actually know far more about homeopathy than a lot of people who aren't interested in it either way would..)

Honestly, if one like this comes up I am pulling one of the adjudicators up and asking "am I expected to answer this as if homeopathy is scientifically accurate, or as if I am a homeopath?"

Devote some time to asking local homeopathic pharmacists about how you should respond to a homeopathic emergency or what one should do in case of an overdose of tap water.

Both of those are probably very good ideas.

Yes, their "form" so far this year has been to ignore your request, fuck what you think and take your money. I wouldn't risk the marks by answering honestly!

Complain and make a stink AFTER you pass your pharmacy exam. Best of luck with that too! :flowers:

Are pharmacists in NI required to bullshit their customers about sugar pills too?

Unless you are worried about passing and need every mark, I would just put a big, fat X through the question and write "none of the above: homeopathy is bullshit" underneath. but maybe that's just me... :hehe:
