That would be a great boon, if we can grow replacement organs. I might live to 100 after all....
But, aside from the medical potential, it would seem to be a no brainer that we could grow sides of beef in a lab, without the rest of the cow. Imagine that - the entire animal rights activist group would be able to shut the fuck up - we could just grow New York Strip steaks in a factory. Nommy steaks, without the guilt!

Cost, my friend, cost. 500ml of DMEM costs something like 22$ and there is only so many cells you can grow in a bioreactor if they're not cancerous. The facilities required are also specialized and can be expensive. With a heart the advantage is that it is better than alternatives, economically & medically, cannot necessarily say the same thing about lab-synthesized meat.Coito ergo sum wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... rough.html

They're already doing that. That's how the Fast Food places get their meat. Only what they're growing are tumours - they grow faster and thus are more profitable.Coito ergo sum wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... rough.html
