You mean you saw discrimination against the replicants as racism?

Well, it is certainly bigotry.

But don't forget that it is the replicant technology developed to the stage where they were imbued with personalities completely indistinguishable from humans - ergo, they were human. Prior to that emerging, they were very complex dishwashers - built to execute tasks.

So the background the public had was that these were machines built to do icky jobs that humans wouldn't do. No better start for bigotry.

I didn't get that impression.
Tyrell: We began to recognize in them a strange obsession. After all, they are emotionally inexperienced, with only a few years in which to store up the experiences which you and I take for granted. If we gift them with a past, we create a cushion or a pillow for their emotions, and consequently, we can control them better.
Deckard: Memories! You're talking about memories!
I got the impression they were entirely biological with a sped-up life timeline and enhanced abilities. But an emotional blank slate that was unstable.

IIRC

Replicants were made for off-world work only, and were not permitted on earth.

They did work like:

1. Military (Roy Batty)
2. Sex work (Pris)
3. Other dangerous off-world, and usually manual tasks

The Replicants came back to try to get their 4 year life span extended. (But this seems to be technically impossible).

The movie is primarily an exploration of what it means to be human. It seems to me though, that it also covers territory of bigotry.

IIRC

Their lifespan was limited to 4 tears after a rebellion.

Those who don't learn from history etc etc..........

Maybe that was the spin in the movie. I can't remember. But the concept was not that.

They were designed with a 4 year lifespan as a safety precaution. Roy wanted more life, and when his creator proved unable he murdered his creator/god.

Apologies - you're correct:
Replicants became illegal on Earth after a bloody mutiny by Nexus-6s off-world. The Tyrell Corp./Rosen Assoc. discovered that the longer a Nexus-6 lived the more life-experience it gained. With these memories they often developed their own emotional reflexes, and the longer they lived the more independent and unstable their personalities became. So, Tyrell added a "fail-safe device" to Nexus-6 models: a built-in four-year lifespan to prevent them from developing their own "emotional responses." This was especially necessary for Mental-A models whose intellectual capacity at least matched those of their genetic designers.
Designed into them specifically so that they would not develop human responses and indeed personalities.

Nice twist. Poses excellent questions.

One of the recurring comments that Hitchens made of Christianity's god was the inherent impossibility of humanity being designed flawed and yet commanded to be perfect.

It is the fundamental issue, at least as far as the abrahamic religions are concerned.
