Dyson Galaxies are cool on the outside but inside their freaking awesome. Why look for Dyson Spheres when a Dyson Galaxy would be easier to spot by its gravitaitional effect on groups of neighbouring galaxies? As the sphere grew older the extreme intellegences inside would import entire star systems making nearby galaxies take on a unusual 'eaten' look.

Oh, shit. Where do you get the building material for a dyson galaxy? Do you synthesize it in star factories?

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I suppose you could use hydrogen as a building block and stoke up a quaser to fire out the heavier elements as needed?....there is lot of hydrogen about.

What do you mean with hydrogen as a building block? Also, you would need to transform a lot of galaxies into solids to make the sphere, wouldn't you?

Privacy. So those asshole neighbouring galaxies get something else to talk about besides your drinking habits

I was thinking "Eddorians" there, but each to his own.

The purpose of a Dyson Galaxy is going to be to provide a immense living space after a inteliigent alien species, or alliance of species, has passed through a number of technological singularities. If they could use nanobots to explore the resource base of their local galaxy they may use nearby clusters as building sites to import materials, perhaps even expertise, for the construction task. Their construction sites should be looked for by SETI and these will be on the galactic fringes and inside the satellite clusters? They will be rare but not as rare as things smaller like Dyson Spheres, no one is going to build a raft if they can build a speedboat.

Why cloak a galaxy? Social enterprise between otherwise competing warlike species with awesome space weaponry. Why did they go to the moon when people could use more energy having a nuclear war?

Sorry, but I don't see the need. A Dyson star sphere gives thousands of times the room you'd need for any likely race, and you could build a lot of them faster than one Dyson galaxy sphere.

Dyson Spheres will attract predators. Even now, a primitive species here is discussing their existance like a piece of cake in space. Only alliances between species are compatible with technological prowess of the maximum kind. A Dyson Galaxy would be like a Dyson Sphere, stars could be stabilised on internal trajectories close enough to provide light/heat/energy. When any star began to die it could be easily replaced like a dimming lightbulb without jeapordising the alien civilization. The amount of time and the amount of space available would be far greater than a Dyson Sphere. A excess of 'territory' is essential if pressurised competitive forces are not to destroy a advanced civilization.

This is the kind of evidence that might indicate 'dodgy movements' in galactic space. If there are things along these lines being constructed they may inspire other galaxies with sufficient technology to emulate and so like most things that follow a 'blueprint' will likely appear in clusters. They may be shunted out into the voids between galaxies to avoid dangerous supernova and may have re-arranged the distribution of stars in nearby galaxies? All these large effects, and more, should produce a number of currently identifiable 'Dyson Galaxy' signatures?

I've got a Dyson Sphere at the bottom of one of these.

If they did, we'd never see it, the star would be obscured. It would be truly awesome, however, a billion times the available space we have on this rock, all of which could be accessed by ground transport if you had the time.
It would radiate intensely in the infrared.

Not? Developed by human? Well that'd be a grub-picker-outer-stick then.
